True Corporation has entered into joint investment with NEC Corportion to install new fiber-optic submarine cables which will connect communications systems of countries of Southeast Asia and North Asia.

Supoj Mahapan, director of True Corporation’s International Services Business, said Tuesday (April 3) that the new submarine cables, called the Southeast Asia-Japan 2 Submarine Cable (SJC2), would accommodate the increased use of internet and to enable users to have quicker access to information.

The expansion and improvement of internet service with faster speed will encourage investors to invest in Thailand and upgrade Thailand as the hub of Asean, said Mr Supoj.

How about improving your communication and network structure first...... the service has gotten really terrible for the last few weeks

A developing nation for infrastructure but not mindset. Forever left behind.

But will they have the resources, the knowledge and the 'mindset' to quickly make repairs when needed?

No need. These cables last forever until they break.

Expected minimum lifetime is 25 years.

And rest assured, True is obviously not a big player in this consortium.

An NEC article does not even mention True:

Quote

The SJC2 will be built and operated by a global consortium comprising telecommunications and technology companies, including China Mobile International; Chuan Wei; Chunghwa Telecom; Facebook; KDDI; Singtel; SK Broadband; and VNPT.

Singtel is everywhere and Thailand is highly dependent on Singapore.

I failed to find a proper list of consortium members and their share.

NEC is the company that builds it. So again it will not be Somchai to fix it in case.

The numbers are impressing, up to 144 Terabit/s.

Best cables in operation that I know of are 60 Terabit/s.

Constructor NEC says the 144 terabits per sec cable is "roughly the equivalent of simultaneously streaming 5.76 million ultra-high definition videos per second."  Impressive.

I could not find the SJC2 consortium member list on the Submarine Cable website. In fact, SJC2 is not even on its complete world map of submarine cable systems, though the older SJC 1 is.

sounds great but the set up in Thailand is not capable of supplying decent speeds, its all profits so they simply load as many as possible onto their infrastructure overloading it, the gateway into the country is also well below par and until it is fixed we will never see top speeds/reliability here

Selling more than they have for which True seems particularly known for.
