BANGKOK, 5 April 2018 (NNT) - The government invites people to celebrate the Grand Songkran Festival for good luck in the Thai New Year and urges all sectors to help promote road safety during the festival.

The administration stressed that visitors planning to attend the event are encouraged to dress in traditional Thai costumes, polite attire, or floral shirts. Costume services are also available on site. Water guns and powder are not allowed.

As for the traffic management around the venue the officials revealed that the U Thong Nai and Sri Ayudhya roads going to the Royal Plaza will be closed. Only one lane of the Ratchadamnoen Nok road extending from the Suan Mitsakawan intersection will be available from 10am to 6pm.

The government’s Songkran celebration will take place from April 6th to 8th at the Royal Plaza and Sanam Suea Pa. This year’s event hopes to instill gratitude in young people and promote the nation’s arts and culture. Buddhist chanting books sponsored by His Majesty the King will be given to the visitors

Other highlights of the event include ceremonies to pour water onto Buddha images and senior citizens, Songkran exhibitions, a sand pagoda building activity and a revelation of ancient fragrances.
