BANGKOK, 05 April 2018, (NNT) - The Public Health Minister is planning to discuss the application and implementation of medical marijuana in Thailand.

According to Public Health Minister Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, Thailand needs to embrace the benefits of using marijuana for medical purposes for the sake of the Thai citizens and the medical sector.

He said the Kingdom should conduct research on marijuana like any other herbs and revise the law governing the categorization of narcotic drugs. Currently, marijuana is categorized as tier five addictive substance. He suggested that the government designate a specific area to cultivate and process marijuana for medical purposes. He is confident that Thailand has the capacity to develop and process the plant for a good cause.

Dr. Piyasakol indicated that the medical benefits of marijuana have been discussed among various units. In addition, a working committee comprising experts and academics will be established to study and push for the use of medical marijuana in Thailand.

Thai Stick.

Famous since the 70's

Military could grow it. Monopoly could process it. Doctors could prescribe it. Populous could use it.  Tourists would flock here to 'legally' smoke it (except on the beaches).

Pizza companies could make happy herb pizzas

The Ministry of Public Health will set up an ad hoc committee tasked with conducting research and development of marijuana for medical purpose, Public Health Minister Dr Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn said on Wednesday (April 5).

He added that members of the committee would be drawn from various sectors, especially academics and researchers from Rangsit University, with Dr Sophon Mekthon, chairman of the Government Pharmaceutical Organization, to be approached to head the committee.

The minister said that it was about time for Thailand to adjust its stance in order to make use of anything such as marijuana which is potentially useful for medical purpose.

The wife of a good friend has just undergone 8 weeks of chemo and radiation therapy for a stage 3 cancer.  Its the first time I have witnessed suffering like that first hand.  The only way that she was able to keep going was for her husband to buy medical marijuana ("imported" from Canada) illegally.  We can joke all we want about recreational marijuana.  The need for medical marijuana is no joke.  It's cruel to withhold it from people in situations like this.

I have seen it many times.  Wish my relatives agreed to take it, but they were afraid.   The junta was all set to start growing it, but they drew a lot of media flack.  Pot has a lot of benefits.

The jokes come from not knowing.  iThrive has just shown an amazing docuseries.  Don’t expect your dr to know about it.  Don’t expect the pharmaceuticals to investigate it. Patent a plant??

In February PM Prayut Chan-o-cha gave an emphatic thumbs down to this proposal. If Public Health Minister Dr. Piyasakol values his career he should stop talking about the subject.

Seems medicinal marijuana for relief of chronic pain for the suffering is not high on his priority list. Unlike dressing up in dandy costumes and handing out Thai Niyom money to buy popularity.

The government simply doesn’t care enough about the people to move this through.  All talk and no substance is the rule or the day.  As It he research will tell, them s is one of the most valuable plants yet discovered

too much competition for the ya-ba & the billionaire generals

Would you mind posting the link to the iThrive docuseries you mention?
