BANGKOK, 16th April 2018 (NNT) – The chief of the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) is convinced that Thai citizens will go to the polls in February 2019.

CDC chairman Meechai Ruchuphan said today that Thai politics is moving in the right direction and the fact that the government led by PM Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha wants to meet with political parties is a good sign.

In regard to the two draft organic laws governing the election of members of parliament and the election of senators, Meechai said the Constitutional Court is expected to render its verdict on the constitutionality of the two bills no later than June or before the administration summons political parties and the electoral body, to determine an election date.

Voicing his confidence about the election roadmap, Meechai said the nation will go to the polls some time in February next year.

When asked if the National Council for Peace and Order would be able to maintain law and order if the general election had to delayed, he declined to give an answer.
