Calculate the total lift - from water surface to top of reservoir. Size pump accordingly.

Calculate total motor draw. Allow 2 or 3 times current for startup.

Calculate number of hours per day the motor will run, to size battery bank. Aim for no more than 30% rundown of capacity.

Calculate the number and wattage of solar cells required.

For strictly water pumping, a DC pump will be more then adequate in most cases.

The higher you lift, the more it costs, all other things being equal.
