BANGKOK, 18th April 2018 (NNT) – The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, thanked all sides, including volunteers, for ensuring public safety during this year's Songkran festival.

The Assistant Government Spokeswoman, Col. Thaksada Sangkhachan, said the Prime Minister asked government agencies to continue organizing road safety campaigns after the Songkran festival ended on Tuesday (April 17th).

Col. Thaksada said Gen. Prayut also wanted relevant agencies to provide relief to people affected by volatile weather conditions.

Well Stupidkran is finished again for another year. Shortly, the road fatality statistics will fade and all will be forgotten. Well, not exactly.  For the friends and families of those killed and for all those traumatized and injured it will not go away. It is a terrible tragedy that successive governments have failed to resolve. Ive been asking myself the same question for more than twenty years. How much worse does it have to get?

Avoidable but who cares,

death industry of  charcoal, gas , monks, flowers, incence sellers, coffin makers and car wreckers / recyclers  all make extra money out of Songkran,

I thank the PM for nothing.

Dear Thai citizens, I congratulate you on your undying love & determination to ensure that Thailand remains the number one hub for totally unnecessary road deaths during national holidays, I salute you all with this double dose of Lao Khao before I drive myself home.

See you all for the next big one, yours Little P

Total hypocrite. A little more sense is obviiusly asking to much.

Once again, the PM has proven his legendary efficiency.. :cheesy:

So pats on the  back all round. Pre military gov ....Songkran 2013 and 2014 322 and 321 deaths ...umm junta time: 2015 364, 2016 442, 2017 390, 2018 418.

So Mr. Prayuth is "pleased". What utter nonsense this government is when it comes to road safety ...I think its easy to see from the figures above that any of their initatives have failed. Go on challenge the root of the 'problem' if you dare ....has something to do with the police and their policing and why people here do not seem to respect them and the laws too. Go figure government, go figure .....ahhh i'm wasting my breath eh.

418 dead on the roads as reported so far, what realm of fantasy would cloud such an appalling loss of life?

For ensuring safety!

Get real!

Statistics clearly prove otherwise...

I bet he hasn't visited any Pattaya hospitals to see how many people are being treated for eye infections.
