Khon Kaen hunters injured as bottle bomb explodes

Two men hunting in Khon Kaen’s Phu Huak Forest on Wednesday morning were apparently injured by shrapnel from a bottle bomb.

Mancha Khiri district police inspector Pol Major Surapol Sinpeng said a device exploded around 5am in the woods behind Ban Nong Hua Chang School in Tambon Nong Paen.

Police and rescue workers found Kittisak Attana and Anuchit Hitawan, both 27, seriously injured. They were taken first to the district hospital and then transferred to Khon Kaen Hospital, in critical condition due to massive blood loss.

Police determined that Anuchit had remained conscious after the blast and managed to phone his younger brother for help.

Police found makeshift bottle bombs among the pair’s hunting equipment, Surapol said, and planned to question them further once they recover.
