Video: Fists fly as police move in during Pattaya "Wan Lai" celebration

A video posted to Facebook showed a large group of men fighting at the "Wan Lai" or Songkran celebration in Pattaya yesterday.

Organizers of an event on a stage attempt to cool the fighters with some water canon and exhort them over the loudspeaker to calm down and disperse.

But eventually the constabulary move in and make several arrests including one man who seems very reluctant to go quietly.

Earlier the news media reported that 600 police, military and volunteers were on hand to keep order. This video compared starkly to one posted earlier of happy crowds enjoying the traditional Thai New Year celebration.

The crowd in this video reacted as some of those responsible for the violence were led away amid cheers of "Som Nam Na!" (Serves You Right).

Surprised there where no (reported) shoot outs this year.

After 3 .....

Everybody was Kung Foo fighting

Those cats were fast as lightning

In fact it was a little bit frightening ..

As Roy Orbison would sing "It's Over".

I reckon it was a couple of hooligans from Hua Hin that popped over on the Ferry just to cause trouble to make our seaside paradise look bad...

You can say what you want, Pattaya is absolutely the 1st class destination especially in case you are looking for trouble!

We know why the greedy Government & TAT allow this stupid idea of allowing Pattaya to play Songkran 12 days after the event is over,,,,,,,,,,,,, money,, revenue from alcohol sales ,,, some more killed on the roads that do not count in the "dangerous day statistics etc,,,,

This should be a 4 day event celebrated all over Thailand on the correct dates.

Allowing Pattaya to celebrate New Year when it isn't is crazy

What's the thing with ripping their shirts off?

A quote by Dick Motta 1984

I suggest building a wall around Pattaya and keeping the gates locked for a year- then see who or what emerges...

ThaiVisa will close down through lack of use because there will be nobody to feel superior over...

I hate it when people shoot videos in portrait mode, very annoying.

I've just returned from three nights in Kanchanaburi. It should have been four but my family and I were driven out by the noise. Such a relief to be back home in Pattaya, despite Songkran.

I love Pattaya, the greatest city in Thailand.

Having lived here for years, those haters most likely hate many other things besides Pattaya. It may just be their dark, negative outlook on themselves and life in general. I wish them well...well far from me.

Don't hate Pattaya- hate what it has become-  way overbuilt; filthy water; corrupt; uncontrolled vice; surly locals; drunken and criminal foreigners- none of this existed decades ago when I first visited.

Great video in “portrait mode”.

Very adult behaviour. 555

It's nothing to do with Pattaya; this is just Thai males enjoying themselves.  This year I witnessed it in Bang Saen and Bang Saray.  The whole festival is an excuse for drunkenness; debauchery and waste.  Waste of fuel; water; life; time.

I love the skinny dude who wants to go back fighting after he's cuffed. Might be entertaining watching them kick and head butt.

Dunno, should be reserved for women though.

Songkran will be the next event to be declared booze free
