Dentist In Samui

Recommended Posts

Can anyone reccomend a nice and affordable dentist in samui for basic teeth cleaning.

Whats the going rate these days anyways?

What about laser whitening, anyone had it done in samui?

Hi.

Had a basic scale and polish in Nathon recently. Good dentist and very thorough; he took longer and gave far better results than the dentists I have used in Kuala Lumpur where I usually get it done.

Bht 700 was IMHO a very fair price as when I get it done in Malaysia it works out at around Bht 1000 and in UK now around Bht 2500.

As you are about to leave Nathon on the main ring road going south (towards Lipa Noi, etc ) instead of continuing, turn right at the little roundabout so that you are coimng back round the one way system towards the beach. It's on your left not too far down.

As far as the laser/whitening costs there, I can't remember but the good thing was, he had all prices on display on a card at reception.

I am located between Maenam and Bophut. Any good dentists in this area?

One on the ring road across from Santhi Buri, Maenam, but I'd hop a song taew to Nathon. I also like the doc across from Samui Dept store. Reasonable and studied overseas, too. Used him for many years; went to Samui Hosp once and she was pricier and not as caring.

FYI, a friend in Nakhon Si says it's way cheaper there than Samui but also farther...

Poorfarang, if you have all this information then why ask? Need a loan?

What?

Im asking because Id rather goto a dentist that people have had a good experience with instead of just walking into a random place.

Is that ok with you?

Fine with me mate, just having a joke lighten up.

Is that 5000 baht per tooth or for the whole deal? And if so, how many teeth? Just curious as I am considering doing the same.

in all i had 13 teeth sorted,6 of these were inlays,5k each.....the fillings ranged from 500 to 1400 baht depending on depth and size....all well worth doing....i could bite stones now ,they are that strong!next im gonna have them whitened and then 2 veneers on 2 teeth near the front to make them perfectly straight ,film star teeth soon...ching....in all i reckon ive spent 6 to 700 quid, well worth it,in england 2 to 2.5 grand....remember a good smile breeds confidence.....not that i needed anymore! :o

amalgam , although not the prettiest looking material in the filling world , is certainly one of the best. gold is the best.

white fillings (composite is the name of the material) are not as strong or as long lasting as amalgam , and unless the very precise technique needed to place them in the tooth is followed exactly , then problems can arise later.

porcelain inlays although expensive are a better option.

always beware of "unbelievably cheap" dentists. there is a massive variation in the price , quality and durability of materials available.

some of the techniques , especially regarding inlays, onlays and veneers require a high degree of skill and experience with those techniques , and skilled technicians in the backroom to make the onlays etc.

dentistry is so heavily marketed as a cosmetic option these days , prospective patients need to research the treatments and materials on offer before going ahead with "wonder treatments".

a less than ethical dentist , or one lacking in the experience needed to use these new techniques could cause you problems later on.

if it aint broke , then dont fix it.

be true to your teeth , or they will be false to you.

amalgram"one of the best"mmmmm beg ta differ on that one tax.....after suffering from bad metalic tastes in my mouth i did a google search and found that these amalgram fillings certainly contribute to this and other bad stomach symtoms......i dont get these tastes anymore and my teeth look great, defos go for the porcelain inlays for strength,as idid.....but some fillings were too small, hence i went for high quality white fillings.....also the black fillings were starting to crumble in places......appy smiling

Hey meat, don't give poor tax insecurity problems, since that just isn't nice of you, but instead of tax just call him choppers with balls or eye balls that is, since Tax could be a women!

But you're right Tax, google searches are never wrong, it's the one you choose of the options that can be wrong!java script:add_smilie(%22:D%22,%22smid_7%22)

Personally i think tax or choppers if you prefer,.. should lose the dentures and go get some titainium implants fitted....this involves drilling the jaw or top bones and inserting threaded titanium screws...the newly made pocelain teeth are then fitted to give a perfect, permanant smile.....check out SHAUN RYDER,hes the lead singer from uk bands ,the happy mondays, black grape and sometimes the gorrilaz....his teeth were like pickle stabbers after years of drugs and booze....do a google on the lad!they cost him £10k in the uk....reckon he coulda got it done i n thailand for £3k...after all this is THE LAND OF SMILES..... :o

Sure meat, I agree, but DON'T think you'll get it for the price you say. I've checked out the Bangkok Dentists' prices, and they aren't that cheap and Samui is usually MORE expensive than Bangkok. Take a google yourself.

BUT if Im wrong, then I'd be afraid of those dentists, since the "good" ones charge more than you state here! And who wouldn't invest 3K in yourself, especially ones smile, as long as you HAVE the money, maybe Tax doesn't have that much to use on himself or don't give a sh*t!

What's your take on this, Tax?

Listen to this:

This morning I call up bangkok Samui Hospital to check the dental prices. The lady on the phone tells me its 650 baht for teeth cleaning. I stopped at the dentist next to Tesco on the way over just to see what price they wanted. They said 800. Then I stopped over at the denist near the Chaweng police station that someone in this thread reccomended. My girl friend runs inside to check the price and comes out and tells me its 750 baht. I decide that I will just get it done here so I dont need to go further to the hospital. I walk inside and the lady looks at me and goes "Oh, 750 baht is only for Thais, he has to pay 1,300 baht."

Wow. So I leave there and head on down to BKK Samui Hospital. I go into the dentist and she and ask about teeth cleaning. The lady tells me 1,200 baht. What??? She just told me on the phone it was 650 baht a few hours ago. I walk out of the office, pull out my cell phone and call them up to see what price they give me. While on the phone with her she tells me its 2,200 baht. I asked her to confirm that it was indeed TWO thousand baht now and she said yes. So I guess they just make up any price they want really.

Im not cheap but I dont like to get ripped off. So I guess the place next to tesco for 800 is where I will go.

What a hassle.

regular scaling and polishing at a dentist should cost betwen 600 and 1200 , depending on the price level of the office. should take about 30 minutes.

this thai/farang pricing system is disgraceful and its up to you if you want to give custom to such thieves.

laser whitening in bangkok is from 10,000 to 20,000 , depending on the techniques used.

Being expensive is one thing, but not having a set price is really annoying. There is no reason I should get 3 different prices from the same person.

Poorfarang, Bangkok Samui hospital have special prices for residents. They are not the cheapest place to get treatment.

Another one you can try is Samui International, I had my teeth cleaned there for 900 Baht If I remember right + cost of X Rays.

Another place is on the ring road in Lamai, they have a big sign with a big tooth on it,costs there are printed & from memory around 900 to1,100 Baht.Where they get you is on laser whitening.

Oh by the way the lady dentist at Samui International was good enough to talk me out of laser whitening, said it was a waste of money since I was a coffee drinker & a smoker.I thought that fairly decent of her.

Thanks for your advice, Rooo, but getting back to one earlier post on "implants", does ANYONE know these prices? And I would assume Bangkok is the best place to have it done. Any info would be appreciated, like best dentists? An if a resident card holder save on this?

Thanks

i think the dentist in lamai with the big tooth sign is the same company...ban luck fun...as the one nr the police station......im puzzled by some dentists views on whitening....they say if you drink red wine or coffee and smoke etc your teeth will stain again soon,i had mine done in phuket 2.5 years ago and are still pretty white,i do all ^these sins....also how come thais have lovely white pearlys,i know their diets are good, but lots smoke and drink too? :o

Supaporn may be good but she makes up prices as she goes along.

Had an appointment after prices were discussed. Sit in the chair and she qoutes me a completely different price. Just stood up and walked out. She also made me wait for 30 minutes, with an appointment.

This is the crap I hate.

And why charge the farang more to clean teeth? My teeth are pretty clean compared to those nasty looking teeth in most thais mouths. Im sure cleanng mine would take half as long as cleaning the average thais mouth. I just dont understand. They would rather have me walk out of the office and make zero baht then clean my teeth for the same price as Thais. Oh well, this is Thailand afterall.

Several of us have already suggested the Nathon dentist. As I mentioned prices on dislay. No two tier pricing.

It's only twenty minutes from where you live. Why don't you just go there?
