Video: Another fine piece of Thai driving from Phayao.....

Yet further evidence of some of the appalling and selfish driving on Thai roads was posted online after a video was made at the weekend.

This latest excuse for a driver was a person in a pick-up on the wrong side of the road at some lights in the Wiang sub-district of the northern Thai province of Phayao.

Oncoming traffic, then turning traffic has to go around this driver before the lights turn green and he can continue on his merry way.

TV presenters shook their heads less in disbelief and more in resigned acceptance of the madness of it all.

While Sanook said in the headline to their report on the video: "This is Thailand right? Pick-up going the wrong way without a care of causing an accident".

Sanook added that the license plate of this miscreant was clearly visible and it should not be too difficult for the authorities to act.

Agreed. He also did not block enough lanes for oncoming traffic.

Ah yes, perfectly normal selfish Knob head behaviour on the roads. :coffee1:

Hahahaha.... Classic

No mention of the guy doing the U-turn. I assume he had the same No U-Turn sign?

Best thing to do is just shame these people. If government won’t apply the laws or give proper sentences, just shame them on social media and tv. Have an idiot of the week with their picture up and what they did, and then have people vote. Kinda dystopian but it’s for a good cause.

Until the police, etc do their jobs properly, people have to find other ways to make their roads safer.

Right.

A rather mild piece of bad and dangerous driving compared to much else. Intercity freeways are virtually racetracks these days. Terrifying!

Yes, or more precisely.........Planet Thailand. Parallel universe.

a world conceived of as coexisting with and having certain similiarities to the known world but different from it in some fundamental way.

The sign directly below the U-Turn symbol reads  ห้ามรถบรรทุกตั้งแต่ ล้อขึ้นไป which means 'NO U-TURN FOR TRUCKS WITH 6 WHEELS OR MORE'

In the unlikely event of a foreigner who didn't understand the Thai language and driving a heavy hauler happened to disobey the sign, I suppose he would be liable as ignorance of the law is no excuse.

not that bad,but add another speeding pick up coming the other way, could have turned out a bit nasty.

On any given day that I drive from Lamphun to Chiang Mai and back, I have a dash-cam literally packed with examples of flawed, selfish, and out-right dangerous driving.  An entire TV sub-forum could be dedicated to videos depicting the dangers of driving on Thai roads with Thai drivers.

What is used to stop this nonsense in the West?

What is the Thai counterpart used for in Thailand.

Escorting VIPs.   Hence, why Thai drivers continue to flaunt traffic laws.

Think if I were there it probably wouldn't have even registered, as it's nothing new or unusual, just another day in the LOS road kill gamble.

Dear Gen. PM Prayut, do you like to reduce the road carnage? Yes? Then take such idiots away from your roads!

Must have been here too long, don't see anything unusual in it. See it several times daily.

I know this intersection very well. The driver is a total <deleted>. The vehicles turning right  were very lucky not to hit him. He has travelled from about 50 metres on the wrong side and across 3 lanes of the road to be where he is. He should tuned left and travelled about 800 metres to make a legal u turn. A great example of laziness  and disregards of fellow divers.

well...at least he waited for the green light.

Anything different than what is normal, acceptable, and considered kosher?

Where did he come from? Made a turn at the U-Turn? Driving backwards?

And would this be a nice opportunity for a defamation lawsuit?

Can people sponsor such poster campaigns involving politicians and high ranking police?

If countries with rule of law understand the extreme dangerousness in Thailand they might give cause to not visit such a dangerous environment. Only if/when their diminished numbers visiting Thailand effects "the bottom" line will anything change. The carnage is surely to remain. I feel especially sad for the innocent children who will die because of an ineffective police force and ignorant/unskilled operators of vehicles.

Absolutely agree. If one insists on operating one's pickup like a motorbike may as well go for it all the way.

Have you just landed from another planet???

Actually he would have been safer to go on the red as all the other cars were stoped,  possible for other cars to hit him when he did go.
