Where Thailand still trails behind

Why would you laugh wrt Apple?

It is possible they can not afford to buy Apple and instead use denigration to make up for what they would like, a classical psychological mechanism to deal with life’s set backs!!

Thai Post as a powerhouse in a digital economy? Having dealt with them frequently over the years, I wouldn't trust them with a birthday card. Making them a "powerhouse" in the digital economy?

I applaud the desire for Thailand to join the international digital economy, but there are two HUGE hurdles that are not being addressed.

Digital security and privacy. Anyone who has gone to an immigration office and received someone else's passport info on the back of their photocopy will know what I am talking about. Further, one simply has to look at the recent data leak by True; do you feel that the government has been honest with the leak? Do you feel that YOUR data is safe and secure in Thailand? These are VITAL issues that are not being dealt with.

Secondly, Thailand lacks an education system to enable its citizens to properly utilize the global digital infrastructure, and so will be forced to have others 'manage' Thailand's interests. In other words, Thailand will not control its future digitally because it doesn't have the manpower and won't for a long while. And if you farm out your digital future to others, they'll never give it back (I wouldn't).

As much as I love the Thai people, they are not technologically proficient enough on a large scale to manage their own digital future. And that means someone else will do it, with all the consequences that entails...

Thai kids; start learning Mandarin!

Will someone else do it or will it not get done till much later if at all.

I was on first name terms with my uk post master with the amount of mis-deliveries and missing letters. I have not had a problem in Thailand.

Thailand doesn't count the Chinese, and it's largely the Chinese who have driven Thailand to whatever prominence it now has, certainly they have dominated the economy.

And it was the Chinese who taught Thais to be corrupt.

Additional domination by the Chinese ought to be scaring the life out of Thais, but they're sleepwalking. If the Thais do not train their people for the technological age, the Chinese will be happy to take up the slack. And some people believe Thais haven't yet come to terms with the Industrial revolution, and that started 200 years ago, which is a real problem.

No matter how much Prayuth struts around boasting of what he's allegedly done for Thailand, the reality he's done bugger all that's useful.

Given 14% of the Thai population originates from China, I would say the country is colonized.

I use a HP computer- which is an American Company-  some of the components are undoubtedly made in China. I would gladly pay more for everything as long as it was not Chinese made.

I have no issues with individual Chinese as they are victims of a system that will continue to enslave them and never allow freedom of expression.  My issue is the Chinese governments expansion Worldwide as a means to ensure their people remain docile so the Communist elite survive. Their goal is Worldwide  domination and the Western countries are as ignorant as Thailand as to their drive for domination. The way to stop them is yo stop providing technology transfer to them and stop them from 'stealing' the rest.

At one time Japan and Hong Kong as well as Korea were thought to make inferior products- and I remember it.  There was also a time when America and Europe made the best products in the World and still do in some cases If Apple really wanted to do something revolutionary - it would make the complete I phone in America and close its China operation.  I might even buy one even if it cost $100 more per phone.   None of these companies are interested in providing American jobs because they are selfish and  make abroad and pocket the difference.

At least the British are trying to do something about this whole mess by getting out of the EU and its policy of unfettered Immigration and allowing anyone in who will do a job for well under British wage scales. Those days are coming to an end.  Hopefully, Americans will also wise up.

Re all the supposed benefits of a so-called "digital economy" and the Chinese takeover of Lazada:

Just as one example, AFAIK:

--Lazada Thailand right now won't deliver anywhere outside Thailand.

and

--Other country Lazadas like Malaysia won't deliver into Thailand.

Try asking why.... and get the familiar.... "So sorry, sir."  But nothing in the way of an actual explanation.

Aliexpress seems to be able to handle international deliveries. But Lazada, not so much.

Somehow I suspect that 'The UK is bad too' does not excuse Thailand from being dreadful. Not all postal deliveries are badly delivered by accident. Last year I had 2 misdeliveries, both to the same (wrong) address. Both recovered after telling the postman to go and get them back or say a few Hail Mary's.

And yes, I know the UK has an occasional problem with thieving too.

Hardly a coincidence.

And a proper house numbering system that would make sense even to dummies like me.  As an example our house number is 180/7 - next door is 74/7 ....???  Wandering around our village I see many examples of this illogical numbering system.

No wonder the delivery people don't (or can't) deliver to the proper address.

In our village and surrounding ones there are not even street (soi) names. ?????? How can Thailand explain this.... I don't think I'll ever fully understand Thais or Thai ways of doing/not doing things. ?????? What a challenge. :-)
