Does any one know if there is a visa Run, Bus or private Taxi from Hat Yai to the Malaysian Border to get a Visa

or would it be better to Get the train From Bangkok to Sungai Kolok and go from there ?

Any info on doing this would be welcomed.

It would be better to to to Penang. The Southern Provinces are under Martial law for very good reason and trains are always a target.

Why go to Sungai Kolok from Haad Yai? Go to Sadao or Pedang Besar its nearer, quicker and safer and you can go by public bus or shared taxi or even hire your own taxi.

Are you going for a visa free entry or to a consulate for another Visa? Yes Mini buses and shared taxis run from Haad Yai to Penang

There is bus, mini van, share taxi and train service to Penang from Hat Yai.

But as said if only to cross border and return a short drive to Sadao or Pedang Besar will do it from Hat Yai.

:D:D

We really want to do the ChoChoCho train :D to HatYai and then on to the Border from there..

Did you mean get the To To To Train all the way to Butterworth(Penang) ? :o

I looked at that also and it would be a nice trip, and I gather the visa would be stamped on the way back and solves that part of the trips purpose. But we really wanted to stay in HatYai and make a quick border dash if its possible/conveniant.. :bah:

Thanks

for the To To To Penang suggestion ? ? ? :D

I guess lapburi3' to to to Penang has thrown every one off a little

we just need to go to the border from Hat Yai to get a 30 day stamp (the next stop after Hat Yai on the train was Sungai Kolok) I thought it may be closer to the border thats all.. . We have a visa till 31 st and on the 10 th of feb is our return flight home, so we were killing time sightseeing having a bit of adventure and getting our visa situation fixed all at once.

We` thought an over night train to Hat Yai would be a nice trip an some thing interesting to do plus get the Visa stamp and then spend a few days in Hat Yai relaxing before heading back to Bkk to fly home .....

all the information and suggestions are very welcome and what we needed... thank you one and all :o

Get the train BKK to Haad Yai, the station is in the centre of Haad Yai, you can walk to hotels etc. The shared Taxi rank is walking distance. The bus station is Tuk Tuk ride away. You can get to Padang Besar on the public bus in about 1.5 hours go across the border and back to Haad Yai same day or you could get a taxi to take you to Sadao, get some duty free and be back in Haad Yai for lunch.

Depends on your nationality if you need a Visa for Malaysia

Mine is Australian and the wife is Philippines passport. I gather as a commonwealth country I wont need a visa Maybe the wife is the same I will Check on the Malaysian Immigration web site to make sure through.

I tried to look up an book a hotel... but Hotel and traval .com has one only available starting at $57 us a night seems a lot and the Hotel looks pretty basic on their web site.

We may just look for something when we arrive back from fixing the visa's after lunch.

thanks for the tips !

Am not sure at present, due to the bombings, but in normal times Hat Yai could get very full on the weekends with tourists from Malaysia but at other times hotels were almost empty. We found Lee Gardens Plaza Hotel a good choice with good rooms and food.

You both won't need visas for Malaysia, but, you'll physically need to be stamped in and out of Malaysia before Thai immigration will let you get stamped back into Thailand. Pedang Besar is probably the easiest place to do it.

Have fun down there.

I wouldn't bother trying to prebook, Haad Yai is teeming with hotels within walking distance of the station. If you arrive by train you arrive at 7 in the morning so am sure there will be no problem finding a room for the night. hotels in Haad Yai are modestly priced especially as now the Malays and Singaporians dont visit so much. You can find rooms from B600.

No visas required for Malaysia for your nationalities. Enjoy yourselves in Haad Yai.
