The power of pointing! Farang Finger saves the day as Pattaya gets a clean up

The authorities in Pattaya have been shamed into action by the power of the "Farang Finger".

A tourist pointing to a mass of trash outside a temple and near a market in South Pattaya finally prompted the leaders at City hall to do something after months of inactivity.

Not only was the trash collected but heavy duty bins are promised and collection times have been increased.

Thai Rath reported that environmental officer Suthee Thapnonghee was on the scene instructing his minions in another important task - telling the traders at the nearby market where to deposit their trash in future.

A timely excuse for the rubbish was found, however.

The fruit season with all its extra rubbish was blamed for the presence of the trash that was even blocking the road outside the temple of Wat Chaiyamonkhon.

So it's three cheers for the power of social media - and the eminently powerful "Farang Finger" or what we at Thaivisa prefer to call "The Digit of Decisiveness".

A Thai promise.......

There's more chance of that guy having a problem with his passport or visa and not being allowed enter Thailand again than those bins being delivered. :wai:

its been like that for years

Trained by our very own RTP in 'finger pointing'

If they only would be so fast in solving problems than finding excuses

So are you suggesting that thais never keep a promise?

The new trash bins are in place today at Wat Chai.

Send him up too Soi Arunotai 4 behind the 7/11, it’s worse plus it’s rat infested, loads scurrying about on an evening.

i can’t understand why the owner of the 7/11 doesn’t report it as surely the shop could become infested with rats if it isn’t already.

they'll find another season to blame

The problem hasn't been cleaned up so much as relocated. As I rode up the railway line bypass road, there's a Thai guy emptying the rubbish from a bin onto the side of the road, to be redistributed by the elements.

This is Naklua soi 16   last week

Soi 9 - there's a rats' nest that needs cleaning up.

It would be nice if they would clean up Naklua Soi 16/1.

We have been complaining for years.

Sometimes trucks come and take a bit away.

Sometimes people come and push it back a bit.

Sometimes the tippers come and tip a but more.

The piles of rubbish get higher and higher year by year.

This is Soi 16/1 from 15.04.18.

Looks like the officially "unofficial" dump site is found at last...there are many more scattered all over Pattaya/JomtienP_20180220_105748.jpg
