Here's your world class family destination - Pattaya farang tourist does the pointing!

Pattaya showed once again that it has a way to go before it can be considered a world class resort like the TAT would have tourists believe.

Our picture seems to suggest that the foreigner pointing at a huge pile of trash in the downtown area might be saying:

"Miami this isn't!"

Pattaya - trumpeted in TAT handouts as Asia's Miami - is once again in the news for one of its unkept secrets - rubbish.

We Love Pattaya said on Facebook that their reporters had been called in after more damning evidence damaging the image of the resort.

They said they were called in by residents and tourists to investigate a mountain of stinking trash blocking the road by the temple of Wat Chai Mongkhon near the fresh food market.

They called it a perennial problem that the authorities are ignoring.

There is always trash at this point and it is a fly infested health hazard and a monstrous eyesore, they said, using similarly graphic Thai language to explain the mess.

They called on the Pattaya authorities to do something - quick.

Pattaya is never going to be a 5 star family tourist destination. Got to give the TAT lots of creit, i don't know who makes the brochures that keep them flocking in by the droves but they deserve a raise.

Hilton, Holiday Inn and Sheraton obviously think it worthy, and these hotels do quite well.  Get inside these places and you actually could be anywhere.

Surely someone can report where this mountain of trash comes from, the Wat, despite being more commercial than a Wat should be, seems unlikely, but the nearby markets must be contenders.

But you cannot just leave your rubbish in the street, awaiting collection.

The local council might be very bad at picking your waste up, but they're extremely good at fining you if you contravene one of their many regulations.

Actually, I think they're talking about 3 week collections now - madness.

exactly

If the market produces this much rubbish on a daily/hourly basis then there should be a facility provided to collect it Daily/hourly instead of just throwing it in the street - it is littering on a grand scale

Usually, monks throw garbage directly over the wat s wall

The garbage cans are full of cans.

Plastic drink cups and straws are the real problem of the world.

People's attitude is once you throw the garbage in dustbin, it is not your problem anymore.

We never know when it will come back to our plates again.

No comparison to London with 8 million people.at least there's a bin there and the public have tried.if there were 2 bins it would be better.the Pattaya rubbish is the equivalent of fly tipping and carries at least a £1,000 fine.here nothing.i live outside a city and there's plastic bags and garbage absolutely everywhere.

Fact, Thais are world class litter bugs.

What's the obsession with people here going on about pointing?

I think it might have to do with selfishness and plain old ignorance.yes it's the hub of litter and when it does go to the waste tip the incinerators are unable to cope if they are working.god knows what thailand would look like if it wasn't for the recycle collectors.

Surely the most perennial problem that prevents Pattaya becoming Asia's Miami is the flooding?  The deluge on Monday was the worst I can remember.

As a footnote, praise is due to the makers of my Honda BRV.  Despite the tide mark being half way up my front grill; despite my exhaust pipe being under water; the car kept going and did not ship any water inside.

Wait till he sees the beach.

thurs morning may 3..boats and buses linned from soi 1 to walking street ...insanity as usual filthy and polluted...

Agreed.  Funny thing is I was watching the TV one evening and the story was about all the volunteers cleaning up the klongs and streets of Bangkok.  All praise to the efforts of all,  but right then one of the volunteers opens a bottle of water and without a thought discards the plastic and lid straight into the area they had just cleaned.

Some off topic bickring and replies have been removed, also some spelling police posts

What's your point... or just more finger pointing?

When I first came to Thailand, we dumped our trash just on the other side of the street. Then once in a week or so we would burn it. Now for the past few years, I actually see real garbage trucks roaming around on the streets, amazing.
