I think it is kind of funny how the character of Erin Lindsay has started not using much makeup to show that she is a "real" person. It was ridiculous when Chicago PD first started and she looked like a fashion model, instead of a cop, every week - not that I minded.

True enough, but I'm a big fan of Voight and the desk searjeant, not to mention Voight's best mate and

none of them are oil paintings.

It wasn't just the eye candy though. I thought the plot just had too many clichés.

And if my main criteria for watching shows was too much eye candy, I guess I wouldn't

be watching anything that comes out of the US.

Come back later mate with an update for us.

Yeah I hear what you're saying Khun Will27, I know you are Hansum man with kind heart also..

It could just be the TV but has 'Erin Lindsay' put on a couple of pounds since the Christmas/New Year break?

Back to Eye Candy though, with nobody notable in any roles, will the 'eye candy' be enough to indulge viewers? I don't think so, it's a bit like 'Stalker' (actually it's a lot like Stalker) but Stalker has a couple of notable names which keeps it afloat somewhat. But as I said I'll give it some rope and see how long it can hold my interest.

Kickass is down. And there i was expecting to drool over a certain Criminal Minds actor. Nuthin, Nada. Zilch.

I may have to go out in the cold and actually do something constructive rather than sit here all cozy and watch silly tv shows. Cripes!!!

Even the Charlie Hebdo was sold out at 7 this morning. Woe is me.... but hopefully my very nice Arab ciggie seller may have kept one behind the counter for me. He is lovely and we have known each other for 15 years. Every time i move house - there he is!!

Kickass is back up ,and to those who like Call the midwife ,new series starts on sunday ,also wolf hall ,starts on the following wednesday ,about hentry viii. for those who like documentries ,the undateables about people who are "different" looking for love ,always enjoyable.

Haven't been here for a while, but went back a few pages to see if anyone had commented on "A Most Violent Year" (2014), starring Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain. Here we have two... LONG...... hours of a promise that something will eventually happen, ANYTHING! but it never does. Oscar Isaac mugs his way through this one doing his best impression of the inimitable young Al Pacino as Don Michael Corleone (Godfather 2 version) , only he's not a gangster, just the owner of a heating oil business that is being messed with by real hoods.

This actor was last seen being less than credible in the usually reliable Coen Bros. feature Inside Llewen Davis. That character was supposedly modeled on the late great folkie legendary musician Dave Van Ronk, who was NOTHING like the Isaac interpretation. Van Ronk was a Real Guy, with soul to spare. Of course, that's down to the directors too, but still, Isaac needs to go back to Actors Studio for a touch up.

And Jessica Chastain is lost trying to play the wife, and tough girl daughter of a mobster. It does not work. Maybe it's the script?

Barely a SIX.

Vice.

Businessman Julian Michaels (Bruce Willis) has designed the ultimate holiday maker resort: "VICE", where anything goes and the customers can play out their wildest fantasies with artificial inhabitants who look, think and feel like humans. When an artificial robot (Ambyr Childers) becomes self-aware and escapes, she finds herself caught in the crossfire between Julian's mercenaries and a cop (Thomas Jane) who is hell-bent on shutting down the corruption of Vice, and stopping the violence once and for all.

Bruce is good, but the rest doesn't work. 4/10

I see a few others liked Whiplash (2014). Miles Teller, who played the drumming student, was very good, but J.K. Simmons was OUTSTANDING as the merciless martinet of a music professor, trying to drive his student orchestra players to deliver the very best they are capable of. This guy is so witheringly heartless and nasty! Even as just a viewer of this film, I found myself cringing in fear every time the character entered a room, almost afraid he would call on me! The only comparable depiction of this personality type I can recall is maybe R. Lee Ermey's drill instructor in Full Metal Jacket.

Mr. Simmons is up for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his portrayal as Terrence Fletcher. I haven't see the other films nominated in this category, but I can't imagine anyone topping this performance. In fact, I see this as really a Leading role. It's great to see a veteran character actor get his chance to perform in the role of a lifetime. This guy has been around for a long time, paying his dues in all sorts of lesser projects, similar to Bryan Cranston before he became Walter White in Breaking Bad.

Best "music" picture, or rather about what giving one's soul to artistic perfection does to a frail human being, since Shine, a few years ago.

BIG TEN!!

A lot of new Tv Show pilots coming out. Here are two interesting ones.

The man in The High castle (Pilot episode only so far)

Based on an alternate history novel written by Phillip k Dick.

This one is from Amazon. From watching the first episode it looks like a winner.

Set in the early 1960s. America lost the war. Washington DC was nuked, and America is divided down the middle. Half Nazi, half Japanese.

This one from the SyFy channel

12 monkeys.

Shows a lot of promise. 2 episodes available so far.

It is a science fiction mystery drama based on the 1995 film of the same name, directed by Terry Gilliam, based in turn itself on Chris Marker's 1962 short film La Jetée.

Time traveler James Cole (Aaron Stanford) travels from the year 2043 to the present day in order to stop the release of a deadly virus by the enigmatic organization known as "Army of the Twelve Monkeys". That virus, in Cole's original timeline, caused the death of 93.6% of the world population. Cole will be helped by the brilliant virologist Cassandra Railly (Amanda Schull) and a math genius with mental issues, Jennifer Goines (Emily Hampshire).

Another new series i watched was Mad Dogs, not bad.

Also Wild was a nice movie, nice scenery - perhaps a bit too girly for you lot!!

Still Alice is a very sad and poignant film. Julianne Moore should get the Oscar for her portrayal of a very vibrant, intelligent woman struck down with early on alzheimers. I did cry a bit.

I just got Wild and will also try Tracks. Both have great scenery.

Not sure I could watch Still Alice as this is my mother's situation...which I am dealing with right now. No fun....

Agent Carter

Another new TV series that has been out for a few weeks. It's from marvel, set just after WW2. I'm enjoying this one

When troops return from fighting abroad, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell reprising her role from the "Captain America" films) finds herself marginalized once again by 1940s U.S. society. In the wake of losing her love, Steve Rogers, she struggles to find balance between navigating life as a single woman and working at the covert Strategic Scientific Reserve, with administrative duties and tackling secret missions for an old acquaintance, Howard Stark. Edwin Jarvis, Stark's butler, helps Carter as she risks her life and freedom to complete assignments.

I don't know what to think about Birdman. I always like these "backstage" dramas, about how actors "suffer" for their craft...All About Eve...The Dresser...A Double Life, etc. So here we have Michael Keaton, a most excellent actor, almost permanently career damaged for his Batman roles, playing a (late) middle aged actor who is a veteran of a lucrative action series "Birdman", trying to show the world what a serious actor he is by staging a heavyweight play on Broadway.

In my opinion, Edward Norton steals the movie, in his supporting performance as a quirky NYC veteran actor brought in to save the show. Everybody in this film seems to be ACT-ing as hard as they can. Since it seems to be somewhat intentionally farcical in places, I thought it would be a great comical touch if James Lipton showed up to do a live on the spot segment of Inside the Actors Studio.

"Michael, what's your favorite swear word?...Ed, if you were an animal, what would you be?" Etc.

I have to admit, I didn't get it, but it managed to hold my interest.

Trend Setters

What's the skinny on the cop show Blue Bloods?

Saw it advertised on TV last night and was wondering if it's worth giving it a go.

Thanks in advance.

I'm a huge fan of Tom Selleck. And like Donnie Wahlberg also. The first season was OK and I think it's gotten better over the years. One of my favorite shows.

I usually search the name of the movie plus subtitles on Google, new movies such as the the "screeners" don't always have them. All TV subtitles are here http://www.addic7ed.com/

Sometimes they are in zips, just extract, open the folder and drag and drop the subtitle file into the movie.

Use VLC to play the movie

Heres a couple SubTitle sites...:

Just watched episode 1 of Backstrom. Crime drama with a bit of comedy. The first case was a more or less ordinary story but the police team that solves the case is rather likable , particularly Lt. Backstrom who is a witty and cynical a-hole with a tiny little drinking problem. Enjoyed it very much and looking forward to the next episodes.
