Terry Gilliam, the former Monty Python member and director of films such as Brazil and Time Bandits, has suffered a minor stroke.

He is said to be recovering well in London after falling ill over the weekend, returning home from hospital on the evening of 8 May.

The same day, a court hearing was held in Paris to rule whether Gilliam’s new film, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, can close the Cannes film festival on 19 May.

The film, which has been in the making since 1989 and has a reputation as one of the most unlucky productions in screen history, has been the subject of a distribution rights disagreement.

In my experience, observation, and appreciation of this great artist, Terry Gilliam,  I am in awe of his consistency of creating masterpieces, those pieces created by a master, which he has proven to be time and again.

I was totally and wonderfully addicted to Monty Python throughout its entirety, wondering at that time if the Saturday Night Live group was watching them for new ideas.

My friends and I would all line up for any of the Python movies which came out, knowing we will love them as we loved seeing Monty Python.    We were not disappointed and I was so grateful for their sense and expression of humor and my joyful response.

I relish seeing re-runs of all of their gems and especially Holy Grail and 12 Monkeys.

Bless you, Terry!...I envision your return to optimal health
