It's that man again! Big Joke in Ubon busting an underage sex website

 

 

The Tourist Police Bureau reported that crime buster Pol Maj Gen Surachet Hakpal was in Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand's north east on Thursday busting an under age sex website.

Armed with a search warrant the deputy commissioner of the TPB led a team of local cops and other agencies to a two story business premises on the Suriyat Road in Muang district.

Downstairs was a coffee shop but on the second floor they found Amnat Charoen natives Pakorn Chawalit, 24, and Miss Ladda Traimoon, 22 and a bank of four desktop computers and one notebook. 

Pakorn was running a website with a server abroad that shared under 18 sex content with 1,000 members and other site visitors. 

Pakorn said that he made 30,000 baht a month sharing content gaining revenue from banner ads to do with sex and football gambling. 

The suspects have been charged with offences under human trafficking via computer that deal with minors under the age of 18.

Surachet said that three raids were conducted in Ubon, Surat Thani and Samut Prakarn with the one in Ubon being of prime importance.

The raids were part of PM Prayut Chan-ocha and DPM Prawit Wongsuwan's drive to end human trafficking in Thailand said the deputy commissioner who goes by the nickname of Big Joke in the Thai media.

it seems much more of a pr quest than an attempt to really end crime.

 

one does note that Joke and crew seem to rather hands off when it comes to the dog and pony show that is our man ken in chiang rai.

 

even that is too small a victory for the man who made his name rounding up every black man in thailand with the exception of the known drug dealers on lower sukhumvit.

What's the Deputy Commissioner of the Tourist Police Bureau, a Major General, doing running around Issan busting Thai pedo webmasters?   Why isn't he in an HQ somewhere shuffling papers and "managing" the Thai Tourist Police Bureau?  

 

They seem to be very engrossed with whatever's on that computer monitor.

It has to to with that that webpage or pages is located abroad, and that it probably has both Thai and international visitors.

So, you react on that they look at the content? You do know that police must check things and know what they are confiscating, right? In normal, not disgracing, words it´s called standard police work.

While not decrying the end results, I would hardly think that BIg Joke is personally involved in much of the detail of these cases.

He may well be pushing his minions along to get on with things. Or a more cynical view could be that when any of his staff do get a result (with or without his direct encouragement), he's there for the publicity - yet another photo-opportunity for a publicity seeker.

This man is a senior policeman, he is keeping himself in the news and doing his career and the public relations of the RTP no end of good superficially, but should he really be running around the country busting instances of crime that in any other countries would be handled by local, more junior officers, when there are systemic deficiencies and injustices in the police force that have been known about for decades but that remain unaddressed?

Is international sex and cyber crime enforcement really in the Thai Tourist Police's charter and mission statement? 

 

I haven't really been following this but the Major General IQ seems to have been tapped for some kind of TDY assignment ~ PM's big crime push?  If that's the case, then no, your assertion that this kind of work is "normal" for the tourist police, falls apart.

 

Don't cry too much about Thai Bashing in this case.  It's the Thais who've given him his alternate name, and the Thai media is running with it, intended to take the piss out of him, and the underlying political show being put on.   Aside from that, this and the other bust I saw, dodgy farangs, visas/work permits, was good work IMO.  Could use more of that on a consistent basis, not this "crack down" krap.

 

Last, this wannabe cop has GOT to chap the ass of the regular RTP for hogging the limelight.  He doesn't even know he's supposed to POINT AT STUFF in the 'bust' photos.  What a Newb!

Oh come on this is bloody rubbish, nothing more than a personal publicity tour around the country with his entourage all paid for by the taxpayer.  He doesn't have time to investigate his own emissions of wind with all his media commitments.   8 a.m appointment in krabi to solve a major crime, 9.30 flight to Chiangmai for another major bust and lunch.  1.30p.m flight back to Bangkok for two more major busts and bit of back slapping be for knock off.  Tomorrow another heavy schedule starting with the arrest of a non smiling teenager
