Samui Livestock Department reassures that island is free from bird flu

Samui (สมุย) Livestock Department has re-assured the public that the touristic island is free from the bird flu.

Mr. Somchai Puranawattanakul (สมชาย ปูรณวัฒนกุล), an officer from Sumui Livestock Department, said that the bird-flu scare has prompted tourists to ask about the pandemic, and whether Samui has been hit by the deadly virus or not. Mr Somchai said he has dispatched a number of officials to inspect all major areas of the island and sprayed disinfectants protectively.

Mr Somchai said not even one trace of evidence has been found connected to the bird-flu virus. Livestock Department officials have also collected samples of fowl droppings to the lab, still no evidence has been found regarding bird-flu.

According to Mr. Auttaporn Theppaya (อรรถพร เทพยา), an officer from Surathani (สุราษฎร์ธานี) Livestock Department, said that a bird flu center have been established to coordinate with local agencies and other relevant agencies to inspect the possible spread of the deadly virus.
