Intelligent people are in command of a variety of registers, they can choose to speak in their local dialect or they can speak in a form of English that is widely understood, it is only stupid people who are not able to make themselves understood, and those who don't want to be.

Many people think that a lot of Glaswegians speak with a Scottish accent. That's the same as saying a Geordie speaks with an English accent.

Glaswegian english was influenced by Irish workers in the city itself.

An example would be a Glaswegian asking you/a Thai person to hand him something.

Being Scottish I would ask

'Can you hand/pass me that please'

Many Glaswegians would use

'Gee'is tha(t) ow'er heer wul ye'  and it would be spoken quickly.

I can only imagine what that must sound like to a Thai student/waiter or salesperson.
