Non imm visa and workpermit termination & transition to a 30 day excemption stay

Featured Replies

I have a multiple entry Non Imm visa and a valid workpermit.

I will terminate this employment by the 31st of this month. This means my company will terminate my work permit & I assume the non imm visa as well.

I plan on staying for another 3-4 months travelling a bit in Thailand & other parts of SEA. I don't plan on getting a tourist visa since I wont be staying more than 30 days in Thailand consecutively.

Couple of questions:

1. Can I leave Thailand and enter again on a 30 day visa exemption before the 31st with my non imm visa & work permit still valid? Basically can I enter using a 30 day visa exemption instead, while still holding a valid non imm visa?

2. Will I face any extra scrutiny from airport immigration using back to back 30 day visa exemptions (about 3 in a 4 month period) since I have been employed in Thailand for 14 months?

3. When my work permit & non imm visa is terminated how many days do I have to leave the country? Can the company terminate this without my presence?

Thanks

If you have a valid multiple entry non immigrant visa (category B I assume) issued by a embassy or consulate it will remain valid until expires. Immigration does not cancel visas.

If you actually have a extension of stay issued by immigration it will end on the date your job ends.

Thanks

An extension of stay is what I have.

I got a Non Immigrant B visa in Ho Chi Minh but that one is stamped USED.

I believe what I have now is an extension of stay issued by immigration in Bangkok together with the work permit.

My main question is can I enter Thailand using a 30 day visa exemption instead with the current one still valid?

If you have a valid re-entry permit they can insist on using it instead of allowing you to have a visa exempt entry.

You could go to immigration a few days before your last day of work with a termination letter to cancel you extension and re-entry permit. They will post date the cancellation to the date on the letter which would allow you time to leave the country.

You could also cancel your extension, apply for an extension, pay 1900 baht be granted 7 days to leave the country.
