  • Waste of funds to build 2nd airport for cities with less than 500k population. Further distance from city center adds further inconvenience to passengers, adding further travel time and costs.

Agree with you mate, but they will build new airports using construction companies with AOTs senior members family members involvement, so they all get their kickbacks.

I flew out of CNX a few days ago on a domestic flight and the terminal was  very crowded at 1100.  The A/C system had a hard time keeping the terminal cool.  A second airport for Chiang Mai or possibly an expansion of  CNX has to occur sooner than later.  While my flight was taxing I noticed the following new airlines at CNX:  Hainan and a new airline called Spring Air(website is ch.com).  Both are mainland China based carriers.  Including China Southern and China Eastern there are now four  Chinese carriers with regular service into CNX.

AOT said that by 2038, 137,790 flights will be arriving at Chiang Mai airport, bring some 23.33 million passengers.

They seem to think giving overly precise numbers for something in far distant unknown shows how smart they are. To me it shows pure lack of education.

"AOT currently projects that in 20 years (2038) over 130,000 flights will be arriving in Chiang Mai, bringing an estimated 23 million passengers."

There. Fixed it for you....
