Deputy PM Somkit speaks of Thailand's potential in the food industry

BANGKOK, 29th May 2018 (NNT) - Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak has chaired the opening of ThaiFEX-World of Food Asia 2018 at IMPACT, Muang Thong Thani, where he spoke of the country's potential as a global leader in the food industry. 

Mr Somkit says Thailand has the potential to produce a variety of raw materials, while innovation and technology can be used to enhance the quality of the country's food industry throughout the entire production process from manufacturing, packaging, transportation, marketing, and public relations.

 

Thailand can connect the agricultural, industrial, and tourism industries of each region according to the unique raw materials that are native to each area and add value at all levels.

 

In a time when consumers demand more information on products, the country must utilize digital technologies to provide information to customers and utilize technology to ensure convenience for producers and consumers.

 

Furthermore, companies must invest in new technologies to develop themselves as 4.0 businesses. 

The Deputy Prime Minister added that the Ministry of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce must take advantage of global awareness of Thai food by helping businesses to sell their products abroad through online platforms.

Cooking up world’s kitchen strategy

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said he will assign the Commerce Ministry to allocate funds to rebrand Thailand as the world’s kitchen.

 

The goal is to create a new generation of Thai chefs that will further expand the horizons of Thai cooking on the global market, he said at the Thaifex - World of Food Asia 2018 exhibition yesterday.

 

While Thai food has become popular worldwide, the country needs to innovate in the presentation of food that makes use of Thai fruit and vegetables,   such as durian and mangosteen, as key ingredients, Somkid said.

 

 Thailand could take advantage of the diverse and abundant sources of foods in the country to promote healthy eating for consumers and tourists, the Deputy Prime Minister said.

 

Thailand’s exports of food products came to about Bt 1 trillion last year. The country ranks as the 15th largest food exporter.

Hmm, I would hope within that there's a plan which includes promoting food hygiene for food sellers.

 

Thailand does have good food. A real effort to improve certain areas of the food industry, including agriculture, would be beneficial for everyone, for sure.

First of all these "traditional Thai food supplements" won't come for free. Second, you forgot to mention the small doses of formalin to make the goods look fresh after a week in the blazing sun. Third, I wonder who in the pictures has stakes in the poison manufacturing industry.
