A few of my employees have just returned from Penang with new Non-B visas and were required to show 20,000 THB cash.  AFAIK this is a requirement for tourist visa (or visa exempt stamp) but not for a work visa.  This happened on two separate days and in both instances the immigration officer claimed that they must show cash because they don't have work permits yet.  One of them was able to produce the cash and the others had to pay a bribe.

I had some others come through a week previous and they weren't asked for cash.  The only difference is they were Americans (last week) and these were South Africans.

According to the rules all visas  require 20k baht when entering the country. It is not limited to tourist visas.

At one time the consulate in Penang had a sign informing people that it would be needed when entering the country.

Anyone entering the country should have at least 10K in cash. That increases to 20K if entering with a visa.

Most border crossings don’t insist on seeing the cash (unless they are looking to deny entry); Sadao is one that, intermittently, does. They drink a lot of tea there!

Can you show other currencies same value, or your local bank account app with the same amount?

Is there any bank machine on arrival before emigration on Airport?

It can to be the equivalent of 20k baht in cash in any exchangeable currency. Bank accounts or credit cards are not accepted.

There are no ATMs prior to immigration at Suvarnabhumi airport. There may some at other airports.
