DPM Wissanu: Don remains in his post

BANGKOK, 5th June 2018, (NNT) - The Deputy Prime Minister for Legal Affairs has indicated that Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai will remain in office until the Constitutional Court rules otherwise.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam also added that Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha has not expressed concerns over the matter.

Previously the Prime Minister reaffirmed that he has not considered a cabinet reshuffle, despite the case.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) will next week petition the Constitutional Court to determine whether or not Foreign Minister Don should be disqualified.

The EC earlier ruled 3-2 in favor of disqualifying Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai from holding his post, on the grounds that his spouse holds more than 5% equity in a company and he had failed to notify the National Anti-Corruption Commission within the legally required time frame.

The EC recently clarified to the media that the probe has been conducted on nine ministers and had found only the Foreign Affairs Minister unfit of office. The commission further explained that Minister Don came into office legitimately, but failed to comply with the regulation, section 187 verse 2 of the constitution, which came into effect after he took up the position.

An honest statement would have read: "He is one of us and didn't do anything we wouldn't do"
