Have visited Thailand for ten years.

Today  went to Sri Racha Immigration for 30 day extension, the first time I have applied for this. Usually have a work permit.

As I am living at my partners home I was told she had to attend also.

We both went, she was told she would be fined 2000 baht as she had not informed immigration 24hours beforehand of my arrival the previous month.

After she complained that there was nothing on the internet about this requirement the immigration officer said ok only 800 baht!!!

She was also told she had to physically attend immigration (not allowed to phone) when I left to tell them that I had left or she would be fined 2000 baht also.

Is this rule for real and if so how long has it been in operation ?  Or us it just a scam at Sri Racha Chon Buri?

It is the law and has been for 38 years. The owner, or house-master, or possessive of the property is supposssed to report the stay of any foreigner to immigration within 24 hours of their arrival at the property. If none of the people responsible to report make a report anyone of those responsible to report can be fined up to 2,000 baht.

The maximum fine isn’t always applied as immigration offices seem to have discretion to fine less. Typically fines are 800 or 1,600 baht.

Its becoming enforced more these days because of the numbers of foreigners now staying in private homes rather than hotels, and tightened security since the Bangkok bombing. Hotels/guest houses have been doing it for years without visitors knowing.

Details are in the Immigration Act on the immigration website on the internet.

The rest of your OP is correct but there is no requirement for a report after you leave, there isnt even a form for that.

yes and any time you go try do something at emmigration they send you back to the owner to get documentary evidence when in fact they got all the hotel residents already listed

they do this sending back mainly to piss you off, given you can just check out the next day and go be somewhere else
