Pattaya crime crackdown ahead of Fireworks Festival turns out to be a damp squib

Pattaya's finest along with the military and protection agencies were out of bed early on Wednesday as they were addressed by station chief Pol Col Apichai Krobpetch before being sent out on their crime busting duties.

The latest crackdown is entitled: "Digging up the roots of crime to make Pattaya lovely to live in again".

At 6 am Sophon Cable News reported that Apichai addressed the 100 men standing to expectant attention.

The task was to root out miscreants engaging in football betting, human trafficking, weapons violations, street racing and all other crime.

The aim was for the safety of the public and their possessions and to increase the confidence of the tourists that this indeed was a world class tourist resort, said the chief.

He instructed the assembled gathering to form into two teams.

The first was dispatched to Boom House, a four story apartment building in Bang Lamung. The second was sent to a two story premises in Soi Bua Khao in South Pattaya.

At Boom House the team hit pay dirt in the form of Chertsak Sae-khong, 33, who was found in a third floor room with 23 little bags of ice (crystal meth) that he was selling for 500-1000 baht a go.

There was also a veritable cache of zip lock plastic bags.

Things were less successful in Soi Bua Khao.

The targeted premises were found all locked up and there was nobody about. The cops waited around for a bit but there was nothing doing.

Sophon said the crackdown was ordered as the resort gears up for Friday's Pattaya International Fireworks Festival 2018.

The news media promised that Pattaya's authorities would not rest until they had cleared up crime.

And they promised other crime news would follow soon.

Sophon's story was written in a style that might be described as "deadpan".

Pattayas Firework Festival heaps of banging going on, good to see the authorities are going to do a lot of rooting around also by "Digging up the roots of crime to make Pattaya lovely to live in again".

Yeah, it was once a lovely and funny place. It´s going to take long time, but if they can do it. Hell, yeah! Then I am willing to visit the city again.

The occupants had been forewarned for a fee.

How are they going to catch the street racers - it only happens when the cops have gone to bed; after 6pm.  If Pattaya Plod could stay awake till 11pm, there's a gang going at it every Monday and Wednesday on Suk on the hill leading down to Bang Saray.
