BANGKOK — Thai authorities on Monday said they’re looking into accusations a prestigious London college accepted a 13th century sculpture possibly stolen from the kingdom.

An art student at the School of Oriental and African Studies, or SOAS, is accusing the college of receiving the Buddha figure, thought to have been built during the Sukhothai period, from a pair of wealthy donors without conducting a proper background check. The school denies the allegation.

I see that the student herself has made NO effort in searching for the provenance and appears to have no idea about it other to make an unproven allegation that it "might" have been stolen.

It "might" have been legally bought from another country which "might" have looted it from Thailand centuries ago.

She "might" just be looking for her 5 minutes of fame.

My advice to her is that if she feels so strongly about it, that she personally does something about it other than making unproven allegations. Ask questions of the college, talk to the previous owners etc and perhaps then go back to the college with some proof, or perhaps an apology if she is wrong.

Looks like someone's already made off with the head and limbs and stuffed them into a pink coat.

Look into the story of the emerald Buddha.......

There are looted Thai, Burmese,Laos etc.,  relics everywhere. My friend has a shelf full of them worth a lot of money.  Its a huge trade world wide

A request to Interpol to issue a blue or even red notice for the statue is  currently being put together.

After which at least 13 officers will fly to London to demand to question the statue.

Case solved.?

But that's different (we) can do those things  because we're Thai.

Sorry - - face, remember face.....

"Representatives with SOAS said her accusations are groundless.

“We strongly reject any suggestion that SOAS University of London has handled this donation improperly. The allegations made in the blog post are without foundation,” a publicity team wrote in an email.

It assured that all of its due diligence policies and procedures were followed.

“In line with this policy, before accepting the gift, checks were carried out by our experienced Galleries and Exhibitions Manager and included placing the details of the object on the Art Loss Register (the largest art database in the world for lost or stolen artworks and artefacts),” it continued."

So, this accusation is just another netizen talking BS...

Quelle surprise.

the thai student trying to hail to the masters back home and get a job with the democrat party or cpgroup

It's a good thing she was not in Thailand. The defamation suit would be a bitch.

One expert was quoted as saying “ I can’t believe it’s not Buddha”

Getting in was easy, but graduating is going to be the tough part.
