The waves roll in to Sattahip - every one bringing more litter

Pattaya News reported on a dire situation on a Ban Ampher beach in Sattahip.

A 300-400 meter stretch is covered in litter brought in off the sea.

Nobody is daring to go in the sea because of the risk of picking up diseases.

Food traders in the area do what they can in the morning and evening - but each new tide brings more plastic trash, more foam, more old pieces of driftwood.

The storms have been blamed - and people out at sea littering the environment.

Rocks are entangled with the mess and under the surface the situation is just as bad.

Pattaya News called on the authorities concerned to give the locals a hand as it is damaging tourism.

Posters called for volunteers but many are resigned to the inexorable tide of trash sweeping ashore.

There are loads of Thai tourists at this particular beach called Bahn Amphur
(Na-Jomtien) beach, technically its in Sattahip district.

Then they can sit and enjoy the beach in their own mess.

I have often imagined what the mouth of the Chao praya river must look like, here we see what must be a small part of what makes it's way down there.Cruise ships i would think have strict regulations on waste, certainley fishing boats, and smaller craft lob anything over the edge.

'......as it is damaging tourism'. I assume this means that if it wasn't 'damaging tourism' then no -one would do anything. To hell with the environment. If there isn't a tourist dollar in it then it doesn't matter.

I wrote a list of the crap that washed up on to diamond beach on Kao Tao when I was staying there after a storm came through one night, the beach was littered with all manner of trash, plenty of it from fishing boats but much of it island borne as well, oh and that was in 2000.

On the bright side, it is easier to pick up garbage from the beach that from the water

so I hope it keeps washing up thick and heavy until someone gets the message.

Technically it's nearly 20 kms from Sattahip navy town.
