New study reveals ancient site treasures

Featured Replies

Experts have discovered more than 120 archaeological sites and three ancient locations in the Royal Academy of Cambodia Techo Sen Russey Trep Park in Preah Vihear province. The work was carried out by the Royal Academy of Cambodia’s working group and the Institute of Culture and Fine Arts. The findings were revealed on Monday by Royal Academy president Sok Touch at a workshop.

He said the latest research discovered 124 archaeological sites including 43 smelting sites, 17 sites in the Trapaing Sanlong area and 64 ancient pond sites.

Among the major smelting sites in Chhaeb district, there were five sites with hundreds of cubic metres of slag mixed with pieces of ceramic, nails, knives, axes and many other metal objects.

These showed the achievement of art and smelting techniques of Khmer ancestors to make items for daily use, building temples and making weapons of war. “Moreover, the site also has traces of three other ancient locations, and the surrounding area of the park has confirmed the presence of historical sites and customs,” he said.
