BTS customers late for work again on Wednesday morning

Skytrain delays again struck commuters on Wednesday morning as BTS experienced a recurring problem with an automated traffic control signal error.

The driver of a train was forced to control the vehicle manually at the Siam junction station, causing chain-reaction delays throughout the system.

A train developed an automated driving control signal error at 8.50am and was delayed by five minutes, which then caused delays to build up down the line with accompanying passenger lineups at many stations.

The Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTSC), which operates the Skytrain, announced that the problematic train was later removed from the system.

A BTSC PR official said the train’s delay affected the schedules of other trans and the overall automated driving control system.

Last week, the Skytrain driving control system, which relies on wi-fi signals, was affected by radio interference resulting in delays and crowds of waiting passengers at stations.

At least it gives me an excuse for being late.

Unfortunately, it appears that when they said the system was fixed, they were lying. The trains are so much slower than they used to be on the Sukhumvit line (now known as the Itsukhs Line).

And all this after they proudly announced it was all fixed. Blame that nasty DTAC again for their incompetence.

The automatic translation of the official BTS tweets at around 10am referred to a crash at Phrom Phong and no service at all between there and Victory Monument. Any truth to this?

I think all phones should be shut off while on the BTS

Heaven forbid you want people to talk to each other.

Ah. And the fantastic contract they have with the BMA, extended courtesy of Sukhumband - and, no doubt, several brown envelopes - apparently permits them to carry on their incompetence, regardless, with no penalty applicable.

This demonstrates:

a) General Thai management incompetence

b) The Thai propensity to blame everybody else for one's own mistake

They don't blame "everybody else"...usually just a couple of others....and the  mysterious Third Hand is always a good one to blame.

They're gonna ban usage of smartphones very soon:cheesy:

This could be a precursor to an accident. That's what concerns me.

Every single post above totally ignores what REALLY happened. Maybe no-one who commented was able to comprehend what they were reading. Or just ignored the FACTS to blame BTS for a systematic failure of trains and management.

A - one - train developed a fault which caused a five-minute delay. Which I'm sure happens on every system worldwide at some point. Not that I have even a minimum of respect for a company that operates racist pricing (discount for elderly passengers in so-called off-peak hours but only if they are Thai) and does not invest in longer trains or a more efficient signalling system that allows more trains to run on the same track - some cities have just 90 seconds between trains.

I'm happy the trains are slowing down. On occasions they seem to be quite jumpy. Wonder how long it will be before one crashes to the ground.
