Non Imm based on parent

Featured Replies

Hi,

Asking on behalf of a friend who's GF has left him and isn't willing to help.

He currently has a Non Imm visa for being parent to their Son. This is due to expire soon and he does not believe immigration will give him a 1 year extension as he can not show pictures with him the child and the mother. However he does have copy of her ID, housebook and birth certificate (child has his surname).

He has been told that he can exit Thailand (thus cancelling the visa) at Savannakhet and he can obtain a new Non Imm with the paperwork he currently has.

Does anyone know the paperwork requirements for this type of visa at Savannakhet ? Or has this happened to anoyone else and they have some experience on what to do ?

His backup would be get a tourist visa if they turn him down. That will get him back in the country and give him some time to explore other options.

Thanks

First point: if he gets a Non O as parent of a Thai in Savannakhet, it will only be single entry. They will not give him a multiple entry Non O as a parent. In the past, the place to go for a multiple entry was Penang, but it has become a bad place for visa applications, and I am unsure of the status there now.

Your friend has no photos. Is he actually living with the child? That is a requirement for an extension of stay as a parent (among other things).

Photos showing the mother with him and the child are not required. Those are only optional if living together.

I’m the person concerned and yes my son lives with me at this time there is Lawyer involved to get custody but it’s going be long process!korat immagration said I had to have photos with his mother which obviously isn’t possible as we haven’t a good relationship and living apart now

Korat has been know to come with their own requirements for somethings.

I assume you have previously legitimized your parenthood since that is certainly required to apply for the extension.

If the mother is agreeable she can grant you custody without going through the court. It can be done at a Amphoe.

The ORIGINAL birth certificate is required!

The IO will ask for it, give it a look and then give it back at the time of application, while keeping only a copy for processing the visa.
