Always been a disaster?

Rolls Royce, Bentley, Land Rover, Range Rover, Mini (especially Cooper's), Aston Martin, Jaguar (especially E-type), Jensen, TVR, AC (later Cobra), Austin Healey, McLaren, Morgan, MG ...

janclaes47 - just out of curiosity, what is your country of origin, and what are its iconic motor cars.

Morgan, Ginetta as well. Lotus. All were actually ok considering the materials that were available at the time. As time went on better steels and alloys were available but the problem was that management wouldn't spend/invest the money to improve the products or the machining.

Even RR fell into the trap with the Silver Cloud ( rust bucket ) and to some extent the Cornishe.

On topic ? the 'new' MG is just a piece of mass produced crap that the general car buying public have been brainwashed into buying by advertising.

Not that different from most other modern crap cars that are made.

However MG should fix the car or replace it. ( even it has a crap back seat )

Edit.

Did you know? and not a lot of people know this.

The RR Cloud was nearly called the Silver Mist until someone told RR it might not go down too well in Germany as mist in German can be translated as cow sh-t.

British cars have always been a disaster, so why anyone thinks they would improve when selling the brand to a nation which yet to date hasn't produced anything that is worth the money.

That's strange as the USA was one of the UK main export markets for a long time..Though it looks like the Japanese took that away way back and is still there..

Many posters go to great lengths to conceal their nationality it helps when they want to do a bash, as in this case a Brit bash, they rarely come back and tell their nationality as it would spoil their fun!

Triumph Dolomite  ( Dollop of s***e ) and so on

Bashing cars from any country is fair game i think.

Actually the Austin Allagro was a first rate small car, transverse engine/trans, making the cabin very spacious. The running gear was a tried and tested reliable unit. But with most rides of the era rust was the ploblem...

The car industry in  my country is not the subject of this thread, British cars and specifically MG is.

Also your claim that in the past 100 years UK had a few decent models, most of those which cost double of an average car on the market, doesn't really impress.

As another poster already mentioned, even the most expensive luxury brand had rust buckets.

In the late eighties ( early nineties) you could buy RR Corniche's imported from the US for next to nothing, but they would have rust holes you can't imagine.

If British cars were so good, then why they don't have any cars industry any more?

Or read what UK drivers say.

True.

Always remember the expression 'it must be a friday afternoon car'

My brother had a 'friday afternoon escort' that would start maybe one morning out of ten.

Must confess I don't like the name buying....Today's "Mini Cooper" has nothing to do with the names fame, just lucky that BMW does supply near faultless engineering, but it is a bought name for the masses that they can make money on..

LOL @ faultless engineering.

For someone with as much knowledge as you, I am surprised you are unaware of the German use of built in obsolescence.
