Prayut in Isaan for the mobile cabinet

PRIME MINISTER Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday insisted the mobile Cabinet visit to Ubon Ratchathani this week was to hear public opinions on the administration, despite speculation that the secret agenda of the trip was to woo former MPs.

The Prayut administration has held several mobile Cabinet meetings outside Bangkok in the past four years. But as the election draws near, the trips have become more frequent, averaging about one a month recently. The increased regularity of the meetings has led to speculation that the junta is campaigning for the next election and trying to win popularity as well as woo former MPs to join parties that support it.

In previous trips, the junta has met with local leaders and politicians to discuss issues. But, after accusations of MP poaching and other criticism, the agenda for the mobile Cabinet this month in Ubon Ratchathani, Amnat Charoen, Srisaket and Yasothorn did not include such sessions.

“I’m not here to take any offers. I’m here to listen to the people,” Prayut said yesterday in a press briefing after the weekly Cabinet meeting.

In a bid to win popularity ahead of the election, critics also said, the junta was on a spending spree, allocating trillions in taxpayers’ money to thousands of projects in the provinces. Prayut rejected the criticism yesterday.

He said the four Isaan provinces had proposed projects involving transportation, irrigation, industry, tourism and public welfare. They are reportedly worth more than Bt10 billion combined. Prayut said the government accepted the proposals and would consider how to allocate the budget.

Some of the projects already had a budget in other master plans, especially those involving logistics, he said. For other proposals, the government would look into it.

“It’s the people’s demands and the government is in charge of allocating the budget to meet them,” Prayut said. “But I don’t just want everyone to be pleased with the government. I’d rather everyone is satisfied with their participation in the administration.”

Speculation? Realy? Does anyone out there think it is not happening? Anyone?

This is nothing more than using some misappropriated keys to the Thai treasury in order to spew out bribes in order to stay in power illegitimately.

Puke!

My wife is an exercise/yoga kind of person and has done so for years in Bangkok. Since our retirement we moved back the wife's village where there were no aerobic activities, so she organized one. Now there are about 40-50 ladies and even few of the older guys that exercise/dance every day at 5pm at the temple.  All for free.

The group had been using the village's sound system until it gave out and needed replaced. A few months back the village had been given a B200,000 grant from the Thai government to improve life in the village. So my wife went to the local officials and asked about using some of that money for new speakers. She was told, sorry, that money has already been used.

We live in a small village and any construction project would have been noticed. There is nothing. Well, that is not quite true. There were a few loads of dirt and gravel used to fix a short section of road in the village.

In the past many of these villagers often wore red shirts. Today, I mostly see camouflage...

This is also tragic. Why speculate so much. At least the man is doing it in the open. I am sure he could pick up the phone, offer them a small fortune for supporting him if he wanted to hide it.

It's the polar opposite of what he has said.

He is making offers, and people are just listening to him.

It's a fact that nearly everyone can be bought it's just the price that has to be negotiated.

The mobile after meeting meetings is probably where that negotiating is done.

Right. And if they say something you don’t like. If they criticize you. What will you do? Still listen to them like a real leader does or threaten to punch them in the mouth?

Sure, he could call them. Wouldn’t look good if someone were to record that call though, would it?

Doesn´t matter! Nothing this man does looks really good.

It would absolutely matter. He can always deny and threaten. If there are leaked telephone clips of him trying to buy politicians, that becomes a lot harder to slither out of.

Looks like there's no change in the distribution of village funds to promote financial self-interest then, despite the present government's claims they were going to tackle corruption.

All mouth and no trousers.

...and those that can't be bought can certainly be rented for a reasonable price.

Why did you just feel the need of making a serious discussion out of a clown conversation? :cheesy::wink:

Maybe we should thank Prayut for cleaning up the thrash. Those corrupt old dinosaur politicians who turn their back on democracy should be better left in the bin if not for Prayut to scavenge and give them another life.

With a sick DPM he may declare it some kind of 'Medicine Show' sing a couple of songs, and read his poems. The only reason for not doing this is, in that case critics already threatened to get him for tax evading by running an illegal mobile entertainment venue.

Today's oxymoron: listen to the people - a press briefing
