A Thai father and two children were injured when they were knocked off their motorcycle in the Jomtien area of Sukhumvit Road yesterday morning.

Hurt were Pornthep Phunark, 33, and his children who were riding pillion.

Nearby was a Pajero driven by a Russian woman named as Mrs Liudmila. The Pajero had marks from a collision.

The motorcyclist said he had been going through a green light on the way to Pattaya when he swerved to avoid a pothole and was hit by the car going in the same direction.

Na Jomtien police are investigating.

  • This is why I have a dash cam, on more than one occasion I have proved the other driver was at fault!

Sounds a lot like the Thai being guilty here, though I am sure they can spin it that the foreigner drove too fast.

Where an injury has occurred to the other driver or passengers it doesn't matter who's fault it is. You will have to pay compensation to them or let the court decide a fair amount. Of course foreigners pay through the nose.

That's what Iv'e been told by my Thai Wife.

I don't think a dashcam would help much in this case.

It's what all thais do, swerving lanes...If there's an obstacle on their lane they just steer to another lane....simple as that. I think it's taught to them during  their drivinglessons since they all do it.

Interrogate the pot hole.

Have a dash cam and first-class insurance and let the insurance company fight it out.

police could start investigate the pothole

because meny of small accidents happen because of bad roads

so who to blame? The government?

Thai driver? Or the tourist?

Answer is,  tourist ofcores

The title should be:

Thai man and 2 kids on motorcycle hit car after swerving to avoid pothole.

But of course then nobody reads the article :passifier:

Dashcam most certainly is of help. It will show what happened. It can be the difference of a small nominal amount and the equivalent of Somchai's  lifetime payday.

They don't always work. My UK friend had his CAR rear ended by a THAI  on her MOTORBIKE. Absolutely her fault, the whole thing was captured by the rear camera. He had to pay her 25k baht right then and there. Needless to say he was furious and had to scramble to come up with that kind of cash instantly. Kangaroo court at its finest!

And what was the threat (implied or given) if he didn't?

Presumably he had 1st Class Insurance?

Or it's taught when they were kids standing in front of the parent driving. This is how bad driving is passed on from one generation to the next.

I never had a crash in 13 years TH (and I do >25k km/y)

Else, a near-miss is nothing to mention about in this country even less to record or prove

Dash cam will get you a 5% discount on your insurance premium - which might well be the insurance company's attempt to rein in claims

the foreigner had the bad manners of trying to drive in Thailand! in most every other civilized country the lawyers would be standing in line to sue the city for the pot holes! here they are decorations!

So the father was wearing a helmet but not the children? Seems kind of selfish to me.

We all wish roads were safer and that all accidents would disappear. It isnt going to happen and it is the price we pay to live cheaply in a country where the infrastructure isnt as it is in 'good old back home where everything is great but I still left of my own volition'. There is a choice if 'immigrants' dont like roads or other aspects.

Find it a tad rich that people who move here bleat about what happens on the roads when it was clear it has always been like this.

People also conveniently forget about what happens on the roads in good old back home. Incidents maybe different but no less disturbing.

Cops in the uk and europe are also clearly treating people according to race, background and culture etc.

People in glass houses etc.

Don't claim the 5% discount.

it may be used against you,   if the cam was not working in the event of an accident. They wouldn't,   would they !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :shock1:

admitted  his fault then, ultimately govts  fault for not repairing the road, no helmets, overloaded, probably no insurance  lucky if they even  have  adriving licence..................conclusion Russians  fault

id  take the  batteries out of  her if i was you and demand a refund  then

The obvious question here is what kind of parent is dumb enough to take not one, but two helmetless children on his motorcycle?

Pajero

At least they didn't blame the Pajero (I suppose because it was a non-Thai driver).
