A fleet of boats carries 49 elaborately-carved wax candles and statues on Thursday along Khlong Bangkok Noi canal in Nonthaburi.

The offerings were being delivered to local temples at the start of Buddhist Lent. Buddhists believe that offering candles as a means of light to monks who stay in a fixed place during the three-month Buddhist Lent (late July to mid October) – a tradition observed since the time of Lord Buddha – will brighten their future.
