30 days visa exemption question

Featured Replies

My wife and I are coming to LOS in November and as always I'll be visiting on a 30 days visa exempt stamp.  My wife has dual Thai/British nationality so my question obviously doesn't apply to her.

We want to visit Tokyo (BKK to NRT) for a few days during our holiday so my question is will I have any problems returning to Swampy from Tokyo in the middle of the 30 days visa exempt period.

Many thanks in advance.

Zero problems.

The "30 day period" is void as soon as you leave the country.

But you get another 30 day stamp on return.

And your wife should not do any passport swap, no need.

FWIW, I don't have another passport to swap with.

I didn't read carefully about your wife!

She has a UK and a Thai passport?

If she does not intend to stay longer than the 30 day visa exempt, she should only use her UK passport and never show her Thai passport.

UK passport is trouble free for Japan whilst with Thai passport they might ask for proof of finance, hotel etc.

And with the UK passport you can definitely go through the same channel which is always better (I don't know the details of Japan airport immigration but I assume they might have separate channels?).

My wife will enter Japan on her UK passport which provides a 90 days visa exempt and she does indeed hold both Thai and British passports.

Yes, we always go through Swampy immigration together in the Thai queue.  Though, we always fly business class so could always use the fast track lane but have never bothered as the normal Thai queue is invariably near empty.

We will be flying business class BKK to NRT on JAL so should reasonably expect that they have a fast track lane.  I certainly hope so as apparently it's one busy airport.

You wife could enter and leave Thailand on her Thai passport, then enter and leave Japan on her UK passport and then enter here on her Thai passport. No need for her to enter here on the UK passport.

Reporting back as a courtesy to your kind responses, KhunBENQ and ubonjoe.

No problem reentering LOS from Japan.  The immigration officer was entirely disinterested in my arrival and through the non-existent Thai immigration queue in record time, I don't joke either.

Had a great time and thank you, again.
