RIP: Actress Charlotte Rae has died aged 92

US actress Charlotte Rae, best known for her roles on Diff'rent Strokes and The Facts of Life, has died aged 92.

Charlotte, who played beloved housekeeper Mrs. Garrett, died peacefully at her home in Los Angeles surrounded by her family, her son Larry Strauss told NBC News.

Last April the actress revealed she had been diagnosed with bone cancer after beating pancreatic cancer seven years earlier.

"My mother, sister and my uncle died of pancreatic cancer. After six months of chemotherapy, I was cancer-free. I lost my hair, but I had beautiful wigs. Nobody even knew," she said.
