Tourism and Sports Minister tells tourists, tourism operators to brace for floods

BANGKOK, 8th August 2018 (NNT) – The Tourism and Sports Minister, Weerasak Kowsurat, has instructed tourism operators in flood-prone provinces of Thailand to brace for floods and immediately evacuate tourists in case of emergency. 

The Tourism and Sports Minister on Tuesday (Aug 7th) issued warnings to tourists and tourism operators, especially in Phetchaburi province, to prepare themselves for possible flooding. Phetchaburi is one of the flood-prone provinces, as deluge from the Kaeng Krachan Dam could reach the province's Muang district soon. 

Mr. Weerasak said the general public should prepare to evacuate to higher ground when necessary. 

He went on to say that all tourism-related organizations, including the Tourist Police Bureau and provincial tourism and sports offices, have been instructed to conduct an initial assessment of the impact of the flooding in their respective areas, so they can issue swift warnings. 

Mr. Weerasak said the flood situation has yet to affect the country's major tourist destinations, and local operators are already prepared to cope with potential flooding. 

The Tourism and Sports Minister expressed concerned about the road conditions in flooded areas, and advised tourists to check their planned routes in advance.

Amazing Thailand! Visit Thailand and experience the annual flooding first hand! Tourists can rest assured that in an emergency, only boats tested and approved to the (not yet created) high Thai standards will be used.

Encouraging fitness through regular sports, the evacuation relay race allows this through the moving of personal items and people in the shortest time possible.

I think there's an issue as that shirt probably is "dry clean only".

"They" invariably get their "spin" completely wrong! unless they consider they can actually control the rains?

Out of 33 major reservoirs only two are completely full and need the level reducing, only 3 others are above 80%, the rest have a long way to go before having enough reserves to get through the dry season, off course there is no guarantee that the rains will be in the right place to fill these reservoirs, so be plain stupidity to start emptying them now as some have suggested!

If they only told the truth instead of ridiculous stories folks may not feel the need to mock so much - maybe? ?

Sorry, they're a little Short right now.

I miss that screwy woman, the last Tourism and Sports minister.  She would have put some sort of silly spin on it.

That would have changed it from 'flooding' to become a 'whirlpool'.

 

Telling the truth is not a good quality in a Tourism minister: he won't last.
