In a piece of casting news that's, quite frankly, a stroke of genius, former Orange Is the New Black star Ruby Rose has landed the role of Batwoman (aka Kate Kane) on The CW.

Batwoman is set to make her debut in the CW's Arrowverse in an upcoming crossover episode that will air in December, and the network is also currently developing a stand-alone Batwoman series, which Rose will star in.

If greenlit, the series will premiere in 2019 and focus on the Gotham crimefighter's alter ego Kate Kane who, like in the comic books, will be an out lesbian – making her the highest-profile LGBTQ+ character in the DC Universe.

Commenting on the news on her Instagram, Rose celebrated the casting by saying she was "beyond thrilled and honoured" to take on the role.

I think she’s smoking hot. First got my attention in an episode of “dark matter”.
