Use the road bridge to avoid danger - perhaps NOT in "hanging wire" Thailand

Locals in Thonburi are wondering if it is better to take their chances dashing across a busy road rather than using a new road bridge.

Pictures of the bridge shown on Daily News showed a variety of people having to get through a veritable obstacle course just to cross to the other side.

This is Thailand - the Hub of Hanging Wires.

There are high wires and low wires to get through - on both sides of the road near Arun Amarin Soi 6 in Thonburi.

Some are calling it the dance of life as there are high power cables just a few feet away.

Others said somewhat facetiously that the authorities are clearly concerned about the fitness of the locals and their ability to balance.

Daily News were called in to name and shame the authorities into doing something.

The bridge has been like that for two months since it was built.

Thailand - long famous for its multitude of dangerous wires was named the "Hub of Hanging Wires" in 2016 when Microsoft's Bill Gates snapped holiday pictures prompting Thai government action to bury some of the wires.

Again, they could look at the Japanese way of doing things as they clearly have no idea themselves!

It's a bureaucrat's dream. One utility company not talking to the other.

At least the locals are learning limbo dancing.

The telecoms companies don't give a shit, the electric company doesn't give a shit, the builder doesn't give a shit, the person who signed off the project doesn't give a shit.

Seems to me there's a pattern.

They should've just let the Japanese stay here forever after the last bridge they built.

And the PM dreams of Thailand 4.0 and Eastern and Southern Economic Corridors and his HS trains etc. yet all he has has to work with is the skill levels of the collective idiots who created this mess.

No hope for Thailand; sorry!

Sad example of the education system where students are not encouraged to use common sense.

The thing is that they don't even know that they don't give a shit.they all think they've done a brilliant job.

Talking to a local friend who is in construction and has had to deal with similar issues, he gae me his point of view. He believes, at least in the times he has seen similar, is that bridge builder has a contract to build a bridge. Telecoms or Electricity board have their contract to fix wiring.

When the time comes for completion date and the wires have not been removed, builder must begin project because phone call to telecoms or electricity board got them no where and:

1. He and his staff will not get income with no work. Time is money.

2. Builder will face fines / damages for completing the project late if they wait for the cabling to finally be moved.

3. If they wait, they will also have problems with the commencement date of the following project if they have one.

It is all ridiculous but if you are getting paid to do a job, don't get paid if you don't do it and get fined if it is not completed on time, it is not hard to see how this sort of thing comes about. And we must remember, some builders in this country are illiterate or semi illiterate so what hope do some of them have in negotiating with all the other parties involved?

These things are very easy to sort out early. The bridge is tendered out by govenrment I would assume. There needs to be a single mage standard contract with commencement dates of making good cabling, clearing of the site, commencement date, completion date. It is project managed and signed off by government. Someone misses a deadline all dates slide back, if the team that miss the deadline don't have a valid reason such as weather or similar, penalties are awarded.

It would be unfu__ing believable - except that TiT.

Aren't those wire going through a Police Post? Which came first? Back to who gives hoot.

Don't they realize that those kind of pictures make Thailand the laughing stock of the world?
