THE RESCUED Mu Pa footballers and their assistant coach came together on Sunday to create Mother’s Day cards for their mums. National Mother’s Day is marked every year on August 12 – the birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, who is considered the mother of the nation.

Assistant coach Ekkapon Chantawong, who is a monk now, said that though his parents were no longer around, he would address the card to his seniors.

The 13 Mu Pa players came together at a study centre in Chiang Rai’s Mae Sai district, where they were provided with paper and other necessary items to create cards for their mothers.

Ekkarat “Bew” Wongsukchan, 14, wrote in his card that he realised how much his mother loved him while he was trapped in a Mae Sai cave, and was very grateful for this love.

“Mum, I became aware of your love during my ordeal in the cave. It took me a long time to realise this, and I wish to apologise for that. But from now on, I will do my best,” he wrote.

Pornchai “Tee” Kamluang, 16, wrote, “I love you mum. I wish you are healthy always. Love you, your son.” Mongkon “Mark” Boonpiam, 13, wrote, “I love you so much. You have been with me all my life. While I was trapped in the cave, you left everything to wait for my return.”

The Mu Pa team was rescued from the flooded Tham Luang Cave in a marathon operation that involved local and international divers. They had gone missing on June 23 and were found 10 days later.
