Many parts of nine provinces are still under water, with more than 61,000 people of over 25,000 households in 35 districts being affected, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office director general Chayapol Thitisak said this morning.

The nine provinces are Nakhon Phanom, Ubon Ratchathani, Bung Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Kalasin and Yasothon in the Northeast; Phetchaburi in the Central; and, Surat Thani and Ranong in the South.

In Nakhon Phanom, the Mekong River has overflowed to inundate parts of Muang, Renu Nakhon, Pla Pak, Tha Uthen, Phon Sawan, That Phanom, Ban Phaeng, Na Kae, Wang Yang, Si Songkhram, Na Wa and Nathom districts, affecting 37,540 people in 898 villages. The water, however, is receding.

Not long ago The PM made a big issue of having the Natural Water Resources put under the control of the PM's office and duly appointed himself as Chairman of the Commission. At every opportunity he made press statements how he was going to do this and that to ensure the dams were managed properly to prevent flooding, blah, blah, blah......

His enthusiasm for bragging about water resources management skills now seems to have dried up completely to a point that people would be forgiven for thinking he is in hiding. He made a quick "inspection" trip to one dam and that was it. Poof!...gone ....disappeared.

Since going to ground he now leaves the bad news media statements for his underlings who will inevitably get the blame if the flooding should get worse.

A fair weather sailor if ever there was one.
