Pattaya Driving Licence - 1st to 2nd appointment waiting time (weeks)?

Featured Replies

Anyone been to the Banglamung DLT Office recently? How are the current wait times from the 1st time where you go to get an appointment date/time for the 2nd time, where you actually renew your licence?

I believe these are the current required documents for the 2nd appointment:

  1. Copy of Thai DL (front/back)

  2. Copy of passport, your visa & the entry stamp

  3. Certificate of Residence

  4. Medical Certificate

  5. DLT E-Learning QR code (https://www.dlt-elearning.com/)

4-6 weeks has been quoted in recent threads.

Presumably you time it so the second appointment is just after it expires

Just returned from renewing both 5yr licences.

Yes copies of documents needed as you listed plus original licence(s) and passport.

Mine was 6 weeks.

For 2 driving licences is it still accepted to get one certificate of residence and one Dr cert and get a copy of both?

Yes that is what I had. No issue at all.

Wow, that's insane. Why is it so long being low season? Two years ago in high season it was only a 3-4 week wait.

What documents did you need to bring on the 1st visit where you only go there to get an appointment date, as all documents are not needed the 1st time you go there?

Why would you time the 2nd appointment just after it expires?

I'm on a DTV so my 2 year license will only be renewed for another 2 years, and the second 2 year term expiry date will be from the date of the 2nd appointment.

Medical Certificates - are they still 100 baht at that small Buakhao Clinic near LK Metro?

Ah ok, if it was a 5 year licence if you go just after your expiry = birth date you'd get nearly 6 years

What does it have to do with tourist seasons? It's always busy there, irrespective of tourist seasons, because most applicants are Thai.

They seem to allow a very limited number of foreigners for each session. I think there was only about 10/12 of us for the 2pmish slot - I arrived 1.50 and was out of there with 2 licences by 2.45 or so but some from the same group would probably have been 15/20 minutes behind me.

However I stress I have never seen it looking so quiet including downstairs.

I heard one guy being told he would have to do a complete new process as his licence was over a year expired - and I thought I heard the lady say it would be October before he could get an appointment........

After logging in and having paperwork checked and given a number we had to wait and then go together to do the colour test and brake reaction test which were dispensed with very quickly. Then pay and wait to have picture taken and then collect licence soon after.

Please note that was for 5 year renewals so no idea if any different for 2 year.

Initially to get the appointment I think I took my passport and driving licences only - you can't get the med cert and COR until you know the date as they are only valid for 30 days.

No idea as I got mine from the "Banglamung Clinic" on Pattaya Tai on the corner just before the little cut through on the left before the lights with Third Road. I am registered there and they only charged me 100 baht.

I confess prior to going there I drove down Soi Buakhao looking but didn't see a clinic. However if small I may very possibly have missed it.

Normally I would agree with you but today, for some reason, it was very quiet and the applicants upstairs for licences were mainly foreighners.

When you go for the appointment time and then follow up proper appointment is this all arranged on the left before the main entrance? i see lots of people queuing and sitting there

Both times (which were in the afternoon) I went straight upstairs but they had changed it around since I made the appointment.

Now there is a sign above the information desk upstairs telling foreigners to go to room 1 which is on the right and where I signed in and others were waiting.

There were a lot of seats outside as you mention but yesterday at 2pm not a soul occupying them.

Ok, I went there today. Hardly any foreigners there at all. However, it's a minimum of 6 weeks wait to get the appointment date, and no wonder why, because they only have 12 spots available per day, being 6 in the morning and 6 in the afternoon. And it's all the same as the past years, where you wait in the white tent outside, on the left side of the building.

So you went to the left side tent before entrance to make the appointment?

You can't go there anymore without appointment?Last time (4years ago) I went there early(7.15AM) waited in a line and all was good.

You could try it but they seem to be insisting on appointments and you are likely to be turned away.

Well that is definitely not how it was yesterday afternoon so TIT and YMMV...........maybe am is different........unsure

Oh and there were definitely more than 6 foreigners in the room for the tests.

Just a thought. I believe the DLT is a federal organization not a provincial one. So can you renew your license at a different (not so busy) office?

The office in yer actual Chonburi city might be less busy? Just walk in and fill in the forms.

Sure, even with Thai customers, there will be an ebb and flow of applicants, but still I maintain that it is unaffected by tourist seasons. Besides, it's only expats who get licences, not tourists. The wet season might affect applicant numbers.

I had an 18-day wait to get my licence (1st one) in June

You are correct. Any office is sufficient. I used an agent about 9 months ago (in Pattaya) and they provided vans to bus people to Samut Prakan. Just had to wait a couple of days until the scheduled transportation. Very easy, if you are willing to pay a little extra.

They do consider DTV to be a tourist visa, unfortunately. Even if we are expats living here on a DTV, they consider us tourists. And we only get 2 year renewals :(

I'm on a DTV so my 2 year license will only be renewed for another 2 years, and the second 2 year term expiry date will be from the date of the 2nd appointment.

if you have a five year license you get an extra year

I think a better option is to wait until after noon and go upstairs to the air-conditioned foreigners' office to make your appointment. I went at 1 pm and was first in the queue (to make my appointment).

Even if you're technically a tourist, I'm sure DTV holders are not concerned about a tourist season and will come any time of year.
