New US ambassador to Cambodia named

Featured Replies

The United States on Friday named Patrick Murphy as its incoming ambassador to Cambodia, replacing current Ambassador Willam Heidt whose term will soon expire.

A White House statement said that President Donald Trump’s administration appointed Mr Murphy. Mr Murphy is currently deputy assistant secretary for Southeast Asia with the US State Department.

He has been with the Foreign Service for more than 25 years and served in numerous senior positions in Southeast Asia. When contacted yesterday, the US embassy in Phnom Penh said it could not yet comment about the appointment. Mr Heidt was appointed the ambassador in August 2015 by the US Senate and was sworn in on September 14, 2015.

And don't you dare say anything about the Dictatorship type of government while you are here.

One can only hope he is able to demonstrate the kind of courage that the Canadian ambassador displayed with the despot Saudis. But, considering the administration he works for, and their extremely low priority given to human rights, and the rights of the poor, one tends to doubt anything will be said about the serial killing, murderous despot Hun Sen, and the billions he continues to steal from his people, nor the repression of his political opposition.
