NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India will launch its first manned space mission by 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday, which could make it the fourth nation to do so after the United States, Russia and China.

In his last Independence Day speech before a general election early next year, Modi also said the government would launch a medical insurance scheme for the poor from Sept. 25.

"It is high time we ensure that the poor of India get access to good quality and affordable healthcare," Modi said in an address from the ramparts of the Mughal-era Red Fort in Delhi in India's 72nd year of independence.

I once heard a comment regarding the money spent on India’s space program in answer to criticism from westerners raising the plight of the poor in the streets.

“The billions spent raises the pride of the people and if the money was given to the people they would only eat it in one day”

The population of India is equal to China according to some sources but in some parts the poverty is unbelievable, conceived, born, live and die on the street for so many .

Australia keeps sending money to India for ''appeaser reasons'' and India is putting a rocket up that could hit the mecca above earth that keeps us in geo-sync?
i guess what else can they do with all that money the infidel keep sending?

They received $2.5 Billion in foreign aid from all sources according to the World Bank data. Time to start turning this into loans and not aid. Ridiculous.

Nearly half of all homes in India don't have a flushing Toilet; I.E.....no pot to piss in, yet the country can afford to send men into Space.

What a crazy World we live in !
