Anthony Rekia

A sleeping pill smuggler found with a haul of almost 50,000 tablets he carried from Thailand to Manchester has been jailed.

Anthony Rekia, 46, was stopped at Manchester Airport after a flight.

The National Crime Agency (NCA), which managed the investigation, said he told Border Force officers who stopped him he had 600 cigarettes in his suitcase.

The huge haul of tablets was subsequently discovered after a holdall inside the case was searched.

It included three different types of tablets in snap bags.

might as well. not needed here, the whole country is half asleep already ?

Valium is not a sleeping pill. It's being used for recreational purposes to "feel relaxed" and druggies love to take them if they don't have heroin or speed. It's amazing how much money people can make by smuggling them into the UK.

   Manchester United.

never mind sleep and brexit, most people here will probably be dead before they even see the next election

At least they've got a very bright self-made politician with the ability to make people fall asleep watching TV.

What are you prattling on about this time?

The comments are about the UK not Thailand.

You cannot resist the urge to have a go at other members, but at least condemn them when they are slagging off this country not another country.

Some of these pills were introduced into Man U's half-time drinks.  That's the only explanation for their 2nd half display last Friday.

i doubt it was his 1st time doing it. might have made a fair bit of money doing it already and is only looking at 6 months in jail. for a career criminal that's nothing really, well in a UK jail anyway

i don't think he's pissed. in fact i am almost certain he trawls not just TVF but any thai related site and looks for anything deemed slightly non thai bow down like a bitch to the almighty thai race and cuts and pastes the same boring tedious messages. for a while i thought it was someone from TAT or something but over time realized he's just a bit of a wanna be local amulet loving numpty

The only real question is who sold him so many pills in Thailand ?!

i reckon you could walk into a few of the big independent pharmacies over near chula for example and if you took the owner to one side i reckon it would be fairly easy to find a supplier of that amount of pills

Don't hardly look like some stupid Brit.

Getting drugs like Valium in Thailand is extremely easy but the vast majority of the tablets are Chinese copies.  And yes any back street pharmacist will supply any amount for the right amount of money. T.I.T.

most may be chinese copies, well they are generics so are pretty much exact copies of the original pharma products as their patents ran out so they had their time to get their money back on their clinical trials and r&d costs. the active pharmaceutical ingredient is exactly the same so in theory should perform exactly the same. anyway, i would think very easy to pick up what you need in thailand and in whatever quantities. i'd be more interested to know the kind of profits he would have been looking to make from that one shipment.

I recall a Brit who smuggled Valium to the UK and sold one 5 mg tablet for 4 to 7 pounds. Do the math.

ok. any idea how much he might have got 500,000 pills for and i'll do the maths.

what i was thinking is could it be nearly as profitable as A class drug smuggling but with a fraction of the sentence if caught

**she's calling to go get ready for dinner so i'll do the sums in the morning if you haven't already, have a nice evening ?

No idea, but I know its more than what he paid for those that he had in his holdall

i think it could be quite substantial. i really don't know but even one pound a pill profit is half a million quid. he could've been getting a lot more than that and for only 6 months jail. that'd be worth the risk to most career criminals.

** don't be getting any ideas OL 555

Yes quite substantial indeed

500,000 sleeping pills as against nearly 50,000

Sorry

oops sorry just got in. nice wine ? 50,000 quid is still a substantial amount and i think they'd be turning at least a few quid a pill possibly even getting to that half a million profit.

what time the pharma shops open around chula? 5555

** can't blame the wine. just realized i made the same error before we even went to dinner earlier 555. my points the same, i'd be interested to know how much they make a pill. i had a friend who was here and still is regular and he was bringing fake viagra from india, through thailand and back to the uk after selling some to his go go bar buddies. he got caught and a suspended sentence and had to wear a tag for a while. just wondering if that's the easy money with small punishment for these guys. i'm guessing it is. sure smaller profits but manageable sentences
