Officers have set up official warning signs in front of a 50 rai plot of land on national reserve forest at Klong Bang Chela – Klong Tajeen in Rassada .

The Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives had given approval for the Phuket Provincial government to use 50 rai plot of land in the area of the national reserve forest as a location for sea gypsies who don’t have a place to live. However no sea gypsies have set up lodgings in the area at this stage.

Let us hope that the sea gypsies can arrive and continue their culture in peace in this place.

I don't know how suitable this land is for the Gypsies, but it may solve some problems if the Rawai community could consider it as an alternative.

With 2,000 villagers in 250 households on 19 rai of land the Rawai group is living in slum like conditions.

Better let the Sea Gypsies live their traditional life.. back on the boats and on the sea!  They did not willingly choose to settle on the land... it was forced on them by the government because of 'security' risks from spies, smuggling, and the law that all the children must attend a school (which is usually a Muslim School, so the kids also convert to Islam and loose their traditional beliefs and customs).  Nice world we live in.
