Watana Muangsook

A bribery case will proceed against former Pheu Thai Party politicians Watana Muangsook and Arisman Pongruangrong after the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Office Holders on Friday accepted lawsuits for trial.

The lawsuits relate to allegations of bribery involving the Ua Athon housing project for the poor.

Public prosecutors brought the suits separately against Watana and eight other people, as well as Arisman and four others.

Watana, 60, who served as the social development and human security minister in the Thaksin Shinawatra government, is accused of alleged malfeasance and accepting bribes from companies contracted for construction of houses under the project.

The Ua Athon housing project was implemented by the National Housing Authority (NHA).

Also indicted along Watana are Mana Wongpiwat, who headed an NHA project screening subcommittee from 2005 to 2006, and senior executives of the contracting companies.

Arisman, 54, a former Pheu Thai party-list MP, is accused of allegedly encouraging Watana to abuse his power and for Mana to accept the bribes. Co-defendants are private companies involved in the project.

Illegally so I hear. Who's gonna clean up that?

kinda ironic with PT being a big champion for the poor.

There are no Robin Hoods in this land for sure its a constant bun fight of who can grind the most out of the poor rename the county Toryland?

And they will "move" that to Chiang Rai.

See https://thethaiger.com/news/chiang-mai/chiang-rai-venue-chosen-to-move-the-buildings-for-judges-on-doi-suthep

I can't help but think there is a greater degree of corruption involved in this project.      Will the truth ever see the light of day?

"Once the construction at the new location is completed, judges and officials of Region 5 Appeals Court will be moved to the new site and then hand over the existing office build and housing units at the foot of Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai.

Who pays for the abandoned project and the new construction? Incredible.

Good to see the junta and all the leaders men, officials and government officials are squeaky clean !

More selective Thai Justice.  The rich/connected Hi-sos never get charged unless they belong to the 'wrong' party currently at the trough.

Meanwhile the jails are over-flowing with the poor.

And when PT get elected back into power, they'll be filing charges against the other guys.

It's a never ending circle jerk.  The only thing that changes is the pivot man.  And maybe the number of zeroes.

its the old "do as we say, not as we do" adage, very popular with each govt while they are in power but it is good to see more corrupt practices being taken to court, just pity it isnt all sides being done

The problem is that the prosecution is more a way of disqualifying opposition candidates before the long delayed elections than it is about stamping out corruption.

And when the PT guys get into power, they'll be disqualifying as many of their opponents as they can drag into court.  And ramming through amnesties for their political allies.

The only real saving grace is that very few actually get assassinated.   Thailand's system of divvying up the spoils is pretty refined.   It's done with bullets in less sophisticated countries.

PTP still going to win the election.

if they do, it will be declared invalid by those who believe they should win.

Well the paymaster just made a statement that the needed funds are available.

How idiotic.

Paymaster :cheesy:

The billionaires behind the coup dwarf Thaksin's lousy billion, but go on, keep fooling yourself into thinking he wins every election because of his money and not his popularity (or more correctly, his oppositions lack of popularity).

Thaksin wins because your mob is many, many magnitudes more corrupt, greedy, oppressive and outright villainous than all the elected governments since 2000 combined.

Thaksin will win because he represents a vast improvement upon the decrepit old dinosaurs you so wilfully cheer on just as, if democracy is permitted, whoever defeats Thaksin at a future election will be an improvement upon what Thaksin represents.

Means nothing, when they take down someone who's currently powerful and connected we might believe there is an independent judiciary, until then most people will believe they're just another arm of the executive.
