RisBkk Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 I'm currently based in Siem Reap long term for work and planning on heading north to Surin for a couple of days, explore Esaan and later head to Bangkok for a weekend and take a flight back to Siem reap. afterwards....I've just noticed however, that I've already got 2 VEE earlier this year, when entering overland at Hat Lek border and in beginning of year when I was entering from Myanmar. Silly question, but will i be refused entry into Surin at Chong Chom border (as I already do have 2 VEE at landcrossings and may only take flights now anytime, I am wanting to travel over to Thailand? What about other Expats living in Siem Reap wanting to go for shopping and a weekend in Surin, as this enforcement totally strict if you can prove that you are living in Cambodia with an apartment and work contract? Anyone knows of situation at that particular border? Thanks, Ris
JackThompson Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 It is a strict rule. To give you an idea - after this rule went into effect, the consulate in Vientiane, Laos changed their rules to allow non-Lao persons with Permanent Residency to get METVs, so they could make more than two trips to Thailand per-year for shopping, medical, etc.
BritTim Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 It is a strict rule, in principle, and hoping they will waive it in your case is very risky. However, I have seen two reports of people who live in Myanmar and have been allowed to do more than two visa exempt entries by land for very short trips.
RisBkk Posted August 29, 2018 Author Posted August 29, 2018 Ok, thanks for feedback. In this case I won't take a risk and just fly into DM. Too bad, was looking to do this trip overland and get away from airports.
