The drivers of two Bangkok buses that brought traffic to a halt in front of Central Lat Phrao mall on Saturday have been suspended from duty for 15 days.

The halted Route 44 and Route 8 buses totally blocked the road, infuriating passengers and other motorists.

A source at the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) said the drivers’ bosses at privately run 39 Group Transport Co Ltd and Raavechoek Co Ltd also faced fines of up to Bt5,000 each for letting employees break the law and BMTA regulations.

The company directors and drivers are to appear at BMTA head office on Monday (September 3) to explain what happened.

This is seems to be a petty and selfish behaviour of 2 angry morons who care most about their pride than the needs of the public, these morons no doubt probably are a habitual bad drivers and suspensions and 5,000 baht fine are a joke to address such idiocy from occuring again...

Looks like brain failure from this angle.

It never ceases to amaze me how Thais put their prerogatives in the wrong place, and how little dissuasive the laws are here. Suspended 15 days is nothing and a 5000 bht fine for each is laughable at best.

I like the motorbike going the wrong way to get out of the jam......guess he did not want to break the law by mounting the pavement and driving around the bus..........:giggle:

But if the very recent poles are to be believed the locals don't want any increase in fines / punishments.

not "Thainess" but increasingly common.

and I thought foreigners were not allowed to drive busses,
with a Thai driver this surely would not have happened.

Absolutely. Just got back from another trip to the UK and the wife and I always forget how generally well mannered UK drivers are. That little wave after letting you pass and then the acknowledgement of the wave - love it.

Then return to Thailand.....****ing mayhem

In Asia the "Me First" attitude seems to be the influence that drives the daily lives of most Asians with the Thais showing of this impolite behavior is head and shoulders above all the rest.

Is that a bus stop the the pink bus is waiting at and the blue bus is maybe trying to go around him?

Here we go again.  Good solid information on which to base a TV discussion.

My wife was totally confused on her first visit to the UK when usually the first car, or certainly the second, would stop at a pedestrian crossing for her. Always. I told her the UK has more of a You First policy, rather than Me First. Of course, that can lead to confusion and delay when you each invite the other through a door first. The standoff can sometimes take a while to resolve.......?

My guess is that it’s the blue 8 bus that’s at fault here. Probably too much M150 in the system...

I can't see any confirmation for "a 5.000 baht fine for each" as I read it the 5.000 baht fine is for the company. Hopefully the company will deduct it from their wages.

It is. It's the connection for Phahonyothin Rd. to Ladprao Rd.. The problem is that some bus drivers park off and wait for the bus to be full (sometimes 5min) and so cars and other buses try to go around. In this case it looks like the blue pass was passing but then Pinky decided that it was time to go too.

Obviously the pit lane is not wide enough for two buses. Looks like an unsafe release of the pink bus. Better ask Charlie Whiting.

Somtaan break..

bus number 8 involved, again. surprise, surprise.
